Sodium desoxycholate

Whipping aids help to preserve the whipping properties of dried egg white. Sodium lauryl sulfate [151 -21 -3] is preferred, but other approved whipping aids include triethyl citrate, triacetin [102-76-17, and sodium desoxycholate [302-95 ]. These additives are effective at levels of less than 0.02% on a soHds basis. [Pg.460]

Certain compounds are known to achieve higher absorption rates from the GI tract if they are taken with food, and this observation has been linked to their solubilization by bile salts [74], Bile salts, especially those of cholic and deoxycholic acids, have been used to solubilize steroid hormones [75], antibiotics [76], and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs [77]. For example, amphotericin B (an antifungal agent) has been solubilized for parenteral use in micelles composed of sodium desoxycholate [78], As illustrated in Fig. 11, the degree of solubilization of carbamazepine by sodium desoxycholate is minimal below the critical micelle concentration but increases rapidly above this value [79]. At sufficiently high concentrations, when the micelles become saturated in carb-amezepine, the apparent solubility reaches a limiting value approximately seven times the true aqueous solubility in the absence of desoxycholate. [Pg.349]

Amphotericin is an amphoteric polyene macrolide (polyene = containing many double bonds macrolide = containing a large lactone ring of 12 or more atoms). It is nearly insoluble in water and is therefore prepared as a colloidal suspension of amphotericin and sodium desoxycholate for intravenous injection. Several new formulations have been developed in which amphotericin is packaged in a lipid-associated delivery system (Table 48-1 and Liposomal Amphotericin B). [Pg.1056]

Besides, it has been found3 that Silics possesses some antidiarrheal properties that are not related to sorption of microorganisms or their toxins. A Silics medicinal preparation retards secretion of water in isolated intestinal loops of rats in the case of its combined introduction with diarrhea mediators such as sodium desoxycholate, cyclo-adenosine 3 ,5 -monophosphate (c-AMP), and serotonin (Table 5). The decrease of water release into intestinal segment lumens seems to be related to the modifying action of the preparation on mucosa of bowels, because sorption of the stimulators themselves on Silics does not take place. The modifying action of the preparation on the small intestine mucosa is also attributed to the stimulation exerted by Silics on transport of glucose and electrolytes through bowel walls.3... [Pg.198]

Vibrio species are difficult to isolate from natural sources as they tend to be present with coliforms, which outgrow them on many media. Several selective media are available, including DCLS Agar which contains sodium desoxycholate, lactose, sucrose, and the indicator Neutral Red, the desoxycholate suppressing the growth of coliforms. Cholera medium works in a similar manner, in that high levels of ox bile are used to suppress the growth of the normal gut flora. [Pg.92]

The soluble complexes of heptaenes commercially available are formulated with detergent-like substances, e.g. sodium desoxycholate or sodium lauryl sulphate, and do not form true solutions but consist of colloidal dispersions in an aqueous medium. The in vitro solubility of drugs with low aqueous solubility may be enhanced by coprecipitation with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) [376, 377]. The preparation of nystatin—PVP complexes has been described [378-380]. The solubility of PVP coprecipitates was eight to ten times greater than the parent compound [381] but the coprecipitates showed decreased antibiotic stability. [Pg.153]

Attempts have been made to use other surfactants, such as sodium decyl sulfate and sodium pentadecyl sulfate [8]. However, it was observed that none of these are able to quantitatively elute BSA when methanol is present in the eluents. In fact, sodium pentadecyl sulfate has limited solubility in eluents containing less than 30% methanol (v/v concentrations of organic solvents are given). One nondenaturing anionic surfactant, sodium desoxycholate was found to elute BSA from model serum injections. A zwitterionic surfactant known as C12 DAPS (3-(dimethyldodecyl-ammonium propanesulfonate) has also been successful in drug analysis [9]. [Pg.395]
