To one-half of the diaminonaphthol dihydrochloride solution saved from Section 1 add 3 mL of acetic anhydride, stir vigorously, and add a solution of 3 g of sodium acetate (anhydrous) and about 100 mg of sodium hydrosulfite in 20-30 mL of water. The diacetate may precipitate as a white powder or it may separate as an oil that solidifies when chilled in ice and rubbed with a rod. Collect the product and, to hydrolyze any triacetate present, dissolve it in 5 mL of 10% sodium hydroxide and 50 mL of water by stirring at room temperature. If the solution is colored, a pinch of sodium hydrosulfite may bleach it. Filter by suction and acidify by gradual addition of well-diluted hydrochloric acid (2 mL of concentrated acid). The diacetate tends to remain in supersaturated solution hence, either to initiate crystallization or to ensure maximum separation, it is advisable to... [Pg.501]

To do the reaction, a champagne bottle of at least 1.5 liters volume is filled with 50 grams sodium acetate (anhydrous) and 700 ml of distilled water. The pH of this solution is then made neutral (pH 7) by dripping in diluted acetic acid. This forms an acetic buffer which prevents the solution from becoming acidic when chlorephedrine hydrochloride is added to it. It also neutralizes the hydrochloric acid formed when the chlorine atom is removed from the chlorephedrine molecule. Then 40 grams of 5% palladium black on charcoal (palladium content 2 grams) is added, and finally 125 grams of chlorephedrine hydrochloride is added. [Pg.76]

Each prefilled delivery device is filled with 3.3 mL to deliver 3 mL. Each milliliter contains 250 meg of teriparatide (corrected for acetate, chloride, and water content), 0.41 mg of glacial acetic acid, 0.10 mg of sodium acetate (anhydrous), 45.4 mg of mannitol, 3.0 mg of m-cresol, and water for injection. In addition, hydrochloric acid solution 10% and/or sodium hydroxide solution 10% may have been added to adjust the product to pH 4. Each cartridge preassembled into a pen device delivers 20 meg of teriparatide per dose each day for up to 28 days. [Pg.344]

Sodium acetate (anhydrous) [127-09-3] M 82.0, m 324 , dl 1.53. Crystallise it from acetic acid and keep it under vacuum for lOhours at 120°. Alternatively, it is crystallised from aqueous EtOH, as the trihydrate. This material can be converted to anhydrous salt by heating slowly in a porcelain, nickel or iron dish, so that the salt liquefies. Steam is evolved and the mass again solidifies. Heating is now increased so that the salt melts again. (NB if it is heated too strongly, the salt can char avoid this.) After several minutes, the salt is allowed to solidify and is cooled to a convenient temperature (in a desiccator) before being powdered and bottled. The water content should now be less than 0.02%.
