Smoking Sniffing

Heroin can be smoked ( chasing the dragon ), sniffed or prepared for injection. Opioids prescribed for medical use may be used for non-medical reasons, especially by heroin users who cannot otherwise get hold of heroin. 

Compounds with a low relative activity (e.g., DMT, DET, 5 methoxy-DMT) have very little activity orally and must be smoked or sniffed. Unfortunately, these compounds taste and smell like burning plastic when smoked and are harder to smoke than hash. There is, however, no evidence for the notion that they are damaging. With the exception of DMT, DET, psilocin and psilocybin, most of these compounds are probably legal in most states. 

The psychedelic effects of dimethyltryptamine are best described as overwhelming, extraordinary and extreme giving some of the most realistic, remarkable and far out visual, audible and physical hallucinations obtainable. Unfortunately, dimethyltryptamine hallucinations last a little under an hour and it is ineffective if eaten, so it must be sniffed or smoked (not very pleasurable). Some of the tryptamines (usually the more powerful ones) are active orally, such as psilocyn (5 mg) and last over 4 hours. 

Synthetic DMT is usually smoked, injected, or sniffed. The drug sometimes comes in the form of a crystal ready-made for smoking. Alternatively, some users will soak parsley in a liquid form of the drug and then smoke the dried leaves. When smoked or injected, DMT acts quickly. Its effects begin in five minutes or less, peak in about 20 minutes, and are usually over in an hour. The brevity of the DMT experience has earned it the nickname businessman s trip. When sniffed, the effects of synthetic DMT begin and end even more rapidly. The intoxication begins in about 10 seconds, lasts for two or three minutes, and is over within 10 minutes. 

Morphine is available by prescription in many forms. It can be taken orally as a liquid or as pills, and by injection under the skin, into the veins, or into the space surrounding the spinal cord. Rectal suppositories for pain control provide longer-lasting relief with less potential for nausea. As an abused drug, morphine can be smoked and sniffed as well as swallowed. 

Ingestion of nicotine is an ancient and widespread practice. Native North, Central, and South Americans have smoked, chewed, sniffed, and drank tobacco preparations for thousands of years. It was used in religious and ceremonial rituals, as a medication, and to suppress hunger. The word tobacco is derived from tobaga pipes used by Central American natives. 

PCP typically causes tachycardia and hypertension. PCP is sold in the form of capsules, tablets, powder, as a solution in water or alcohol, or as rock salt. It may be sniffed, smoked, or injected through intravenous or subcutaneous injection. 

Crack, the heat stable form of cocaine, when smoked and followed by deep inhalation plus a Valsalva maneuver to increase uptake, and cough triggered by the sniffed substance can cause pulmonary barotrauma. The increased intra-alveolar pressure can cause alveolar rupture, with consequent air dissection through the peribronchial connective tissue in the mediastinum, pleural space, pericardium, peritoneum, or subcutaneous soft tissues.

Substances are chemicals that are smoked, inhaled, swallowed, injected, sniffed, absorbed, or inserted into the child s body, entering the bloodstream with varying degrees of rapidity, and ending up in the brain where they affect how the boy or girl feels, thinks, perceives, or acts. 

Guaiacol has a powerful smoke-like, somewhat medicinal odor (Arctander, 1967) it is described as phenolic, burnt by Blank et al. (1992b), phenolic, spicy (1992a), and perceived as phenolic, aromatic by Holscher et al. (1990). The flavor is described as smoky, woody, phenolic, meaty (Chemisis, 1996). Wasserman (1966) found an odor threshold in water of 21 ppb with a flavor threshold of 13 ppb. According to Buttery et al. (1971) the odor threshold in water is 3 ppb, 2.5 ppb for Semmelroch et al. (1995). For Pollien et al. (1998), guaiacol has a high aroma impact in a brew and even more in an instant coffee prepared with the same blend (GC-olfactometry, SNIF method, see Section 3.3). 

Remedies in traditional medicine consist of formulas prepared from various natural substances, animal and vegetable. The vegetable remedies account for about 90%, thus the name herbalists (Mganga). Great importance is attributed to the proper preparation of all herbal drugs, which are considered ineffective unless pretreated in a prescribed manner. These herbal remedies are either swallowed, rubbed into scarifications, poured into wounds, boiled and inhaled as fumes, splashed onto eyes, smoked in pipes or sniffed as snuff. 

Cocaine is one of the most popuiar drugs of abuse, it may be sniffed into the nose (snorted), smoked, or injected intravenousiy. Occasionaiiy it is combined with heroin and injected (speedbaii). Cocaine purchased on the street is usuaiiy of high purity, but it may occasionaiiy contain substitute drugs such as iidocaine (see p 74) or stimulants such as caffeine (p 142), methamphetamine (p 72), ephedrine (p 320), or phencyclidine (p 300). 

Traditional use Smoke from burning branches is used in Central Asian folk medicine to treat rheumatism. The fruits, mixed with sesame oil, are applied to treat deafness. The powdered plant is sniffed to treat headaches. The essential oil is used to treat wounds and skin diseases (Khalmatov et al. 1984 Mamedov et al. 2004). An infusion of the dry fruits is used to treat the urogenital path, and a decoction is drunk to treat scurvy, hver disease and rheumatism. The fruits are also used to treat edema and nervous disorders. Fresh fruits are eaten to treat stomach ulcers and to increase the appetite, and a decoction is drank as a choleretic and to treat jaundice. A decoction of the roots is recommended to treat stomach ulcers, bronchitis, lung tuberculosis, kidney stones, and skin diseases. An infusion of the roots and baik is used to treat arthritis. A decoction of the bark is drank to treat impotency. A decoction of the fruits and green branches is used in a bath to treat rheumatism (Khodzhimatov 1989). 

For example, there is a whole series of drugs called spice. Spice represents herbs adulterated with many synthetic substances more potent than THC and very dangerous. These products may be sniffed, smoked, or inhaled [4]. 

As an illegal drug, cocaine occurs in different forms. The hydrochloride is soluble in water and can be injected, sniffed, or chewed. Freebase is cocaine base, which is gained by extraction of cocaine from alkaline solutions with ether. It evaporates at high temperatures and can be inhaled by smoking. Another smok-able form of the cocaine base is crack , which is obtained by precipitating cocaine hydrochloride from solution with baking soda.

Heroin accounts for the greatest share of dmg use and mortality in the European Union.
