The topic of flare gas measurement is treated below. If necessary, continuously vented surplus low pressure steam can be used for smoke control at low flaring rates, with high pressure steam cutting in through a flare ratio controller designed to handle large releases. [Pg.253]

Contaminant concentrations Dispersal of airborne contaminants such as odors, fumes, smoke, VOCs, etc. transported by these airflows and transformed by a variety of processes including chemical and radiochemical transformation, adsorption, desorption to building materials, filtration, and deposition to surfaces evolution of contaminant concentrations in the individual zones air quality checks in terms of CO2 levels cross-contamination evaluation of zones air quality evaluations in relation to perception as well as health. Methods ate also applicable to smoke control design. [Pg.1082]

New furnaces have to be constructed (as far as is practicable) so as to operate smokelessly. Chimney heights are controlled (see below). Smoke Control Orders can be introduced (to control domestic smoke) and grants are available to convert fireplaces to burn authorized fuels. Smoke (other than dark smoke, which is already controlled) is dealt with by Section 16 of the 1956 Act and is, for the purposes of Part 111 of the 1936 Public Health Act, to be considered as a statutory nuisance. [Pg.755]

Froude modeling was also used to prove that a code-compliant design for atrium smoke control was faulty, and consequently the code was blamed for smoke damage to a... [Pg.402]

The major use for Pb stearate is in double-base proplnts (in amts of from 0.5 to 2.0%) as a burning rate stabilizer (producing a pressure plateau or mesa by lowering the burning rate), and as a moisture and smoke control agent (Refs 2—4 and 6—9)... [Pg.440]

Elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators are a challenge to managing the migration of air from floor to floor. These vertical transportation devices should be placed in lobbies on each floor with automatically closing doors between the lobbies and the corridors to isolate the shafts from the rest of the floor. These are also requirements in many codes for fire and smoke control. Similarly, the ability to seal multistory atriums from the rest of the floors is essential, and codes often require them to be provided with smoke removal fans. [Pg.38]
