Silver application

Most electroless silver applications are for silvering glass or metallizing record masters. Mirror production is the principal usage for electroless silver. The glass support is cleaned, catalyzed using a two-step catalyst, and coated on one side with an opaque silver film (46). Silver-plated nylon cloth is used as a bacteriostatic wound dressing. A tiny current applied to the doth causes slow silver dissolution. The silver acts as a bactericide (47). [Pg.112]

SERS spectra of several dipeptides adsorbed on silver colloidal particles have been obtained (60). Figure 3-16 illustrates the SERS spectra of 10-5M dipeptides adsorbed on colloidal silver. Applications of SERS to other biological molecules are found in Section 4.1.2. [Pg.166]

In its request for an abbreviated approval procedure in order to get access to the market, the manufacturer presented the silver application to the certifying bodies as a minor adjustment, not affecting any of the valve s mechanical properties. The FDA, convinced of the benefits, granted the request, asking only for laboratory testing with a focus on the efficacy and safety of the silver... [Pg.208]

Retrospectively it was noted that other medical disciplines had already banned the use of silver much earlier because of its toxicity under physiological conditions. However, the panels involved in St. Jude Medical s request for certification had considered this expertise irrelevant in their battle with the manufacturer s technical representatives. The FDA had considered the silver application on the sewing ring a minor improvement, which, based on the certification requirement system, did not require animal testing or small clinical patient trials before large-scale marketing. [Pg.209]

Among the many applications of LB films, the creation or arrangement of colloidal particles in these films is a unique one. On one hand, colloidal particles such as 10-nm silver sols stabilized by oleic acid can be spread at the air-water interface and LB deposited to create unique optical and electrooptical properties for devices [185]. [Pg.561]

The method is generally applicable when other modes of esterification are either slow, inefficient, or likely to cause isomerisation it is, however, time-consuming and expensive. Small quantities of acid impurities are sometimes produced, hence it is advisable to wash the ester with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. The silver salt can usually be prepared by dissolving the acid in the calculated quantity of standard ammonium hydroxide solution and... [Pg.381]

Applications. Polymers with small alkyl substituents, particularly (13), are ideal candidates for elastomer formulation because of quite low temperature flexibiUty, hydrolytic and chemical stabiUty, and high temperature stabiUty. The abiUty to readily incorporate other substituents (ia addition to methyl), particularly vinyl groups, should provide for conventional cure sites. In light of the biocompatibiUty of polysdoxanes and P—O- and P—N-substituted polyphosphazenes, poly(alkyl/arylphosphazenes) are also likely to be biocompatible polymers. Therefore, biomedical appHcations can also be envisaged for (3). A third potential appHcation is ia the area of soHd-state batteries. The first steps toward ionic conductivity have been observed with polymers (13) and (15) using lithium and silver salts (78). [Pg.260]

Electronic Applications. The PGMs have a number of important and diverse appHcations in the electronics industry (30). The most widely used are palladium and mthenium. Palladium or palladium—silver thick-film pastes are used in multilayer ceramic capacitors and conductor inks for hybrid integrated circuits (qv). In multilayer ceramic capacitors, the termination electrodes are silver or a silver-rich Pd—Ag alloy. The internal electrodes use a palladium-rich Pd—Ag alloy. Palladium salts are increasingly used to plate edge connectors and lead frames of semiconductors (qv), as a cost-effective alternative to gold. In 1994, 45% of total mthenium demand was for use in mthenium oxide resistor pastes (see Electrical connectors). [Pg.173]

Electrical and Electronic Applications. Silver neodecanoate [62804-19-7] has been used in the preparation of a capacitor-end termination composition (110), lead and stannous neodecanoate have been used in circuit-board fabrication (111), and stannous neodecanoate has been used to form patterned semiconductive tin oxide films (112). The silver salt has also been used in the preparation of ceramic superconductors (113). Neodecanoate salts of barium, copper, yttrium, and europium have been used to prepare superconducting films and patterned thin-fHm superconductors. To prepare these materials, the metal salts are deposited on a substrate, then decomposed by heat to give the thin film (114—116) or by a focused beam (electron, ion, or laser) to give the patterned thin film (117,118). The resulting films exhibit superconductivity above Hquid nitrogen temperatures. [Pg.106]

In the present time our organosilicon adsorbents found the practice application in such as fields such as, for example 1) the method of spectral-chemical determination of gold Clarke quantities in poor ores and rocks has been applied in analytic practice of geological establishments and research institutes 2) at the first time soi ption process was used in hydro-chemical analyze of fresh water. This method has been allowed to analyze of Baikal water 3) for purification metallurgical waters and waste solutions of chemical-metallurgical plants due to toxic elements 4) for creation the filters for extraction of rare elements, for example, uranium 5) for silver utilization from wasted of cinema-photo manufactory. This method has been applied to obtain the silver of high purity. [Pg.273]

For chemical service, some lubrication qualities may be sacrificed in order to obtain a fluid compatible with the process gas. In these applications, alternate bearing materials such as graphite or silver have been required. While the requirements may make the operation somewhat special and require considerable care, the life of the compressor and service can be greatly improved. [Pg.112]

Metal flakes in a suspension are common. For example, aluminum paint is actually aluminum flakes suspended in paint. Upon application, the flakes orient themselves parallel to the surface and give very good coverage. Similarly, silver flakes can be applied to give good electrical conductivity. [Pg.9]

A vast variety of perfluoroalkanesulfonic esters are known, and their application in synthetic organic chemistry is increasing rapidly (for a comprehensive review, see reference 66) These compounds are readily available by the reaction of organic halides with silver perfluoroalkanesulfonate or by the reaction of an alcohol with the corresponding perfluoroalkanesulfonic anhydride or chloride Alkyl per-fluoroalkanesulfonates are powerful alkylating reagents because of the excellent... [Pg.961]
