Many related complexes, such as the platenomycin complex (initially YL-704) from S. platensis suhsp. malvinus have been obtained (201—206). A series designated by abbreviations (DHP, DOA) was obtained from another strain of S. platensis (207) the midecamycin complex (initially SF-837) was produced by S. mjcarojaciens (208—212) the espinomycin factors were produced by S. Jungicidicus var. espinomjceticus (213,214) the turimycin series of fifteen components, isolated from culture broths of S. hjgroscopicus are identical to other members of the leucomycin group (215). Niddamycin (42, R = H, R = butyryl) was isolated from cultures of S. djakartensis (216). [Pg.102]

The sieve is made of a wire mesh cloth of standard sizes held in place by a circular metal frame. The diameter of the sieve ranges from 4 to 18 in., and the height may vary from 1 to 2 in. Three popular sieve series are used the Tyler Series, the first commercial laboratory screens the U.S. Standard Series and the U.S. Alternative Series. Both the U.S. Alternative Series and the Tyler Series designations use the approximate number of opening per linear inch. However, the U.S. Standard Series is the preferred designation and is recommended by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Table 15.3 shows the U.S. Sieve Series and Tyler Series equivalents for a selected number of screens. [Pg.440]

The 67-fold amplification obtained for polymer 3 is restricted by an inherent limitation of the wired in series design. As the exciton travels in a one-dimensional random walk process down the polymer chain, it has equal opportunity to visit a preceding or an ensuing receptor. This represents 134 random stepwise movements for 134 phenylene ethynylene units, and so much of the receptor sampling by the exciton is redundant. Increasing the efficiency of receptor sampling requires maximization of the number of different receptors that an exciton can visit throughout its lifetime. To achieve this end we extended the polymer sensor into two dimensions by use of a thin film and thereby increased the sensitivity. [Pg.156]

Preliminarily, the data seem highly promising that this may be a useful approach to the previously intractable problem of efficacious pharmacotherapies for cocaine addiction. In in-vitro receptor binding studies and in-vitro DA reuptake carrier binding studies (Froimowitz, Wu, and Spealman 1996), compounds from the first chemical series designed and... [Pg.88]

After the number of test compounds which are to be selected from the basic set has been decided upon one can apply one of the series design techniques reported in the literature. Some of these methods apply to a restricted number of parameters (e.g. two in the Craig graphical method 12,13)) and structural variations (e.g. a limited number of aromatic and aliphatic substitution patterns as in the Topliss manual... [Pg.13]

Table 2 b reveals a fundamental problem of series design, i.e. that it is normally not possible to achieve an ideally even distribution of the samples over every area of every parameter space. Such difficulties arise for mainly three reasons, i.e. [Pg.15]

What requirements must parameters fulfil in order to be suitable in the search for new drugs The type of parameter which is principally suitable depends on the respective problem, i.e. whether we are concerned with series design or with derivation of structure-activity-relationships. In the former case only parameters which can be calculated directly from the chemical structure can be used whereas in the latter case one can also (and preferably) apply measured parameters. Thus, measured log P values as well as calculated ones ( ) are suitable in structure-activity-analysis, whereas for series design lipophilicity can only be represented by the calculated values. [Pg.17]

In conclusion, for series design and largely also for evaluation of test series by structure-activity-analysis, the parameters which are used to describe physicochemical properties should meet the following condition ... [Pg.18]

In Table II, a former oil burning boiler that was converted to burning low sulfur coal could not meet particulate compliance levels. To continue to operate, the utility was forced to derate from 650 Mw to 440 Mw. The LPA flue gas conditioner, however, allowed operation at 582 Mw, well within particulate compliance levels. A two-part series, Designing Oil and Gas Production Systems" by Arnold and Stewart, provides theory and background requirements for selecting two- and three-phase separators. Formulas for liquid-drop velocity, drop diameter, and liquid retention time, as well as step-by-step procedures for selecting both types of separators, are included. Tables provide a means of simplifying vessel sizing calculations. [Pg.76]

In a 2- (5-) substituted tetrahydrofuran loss of the 2-substituent is nearly always important because it leaves behind an oxygen-stabilized cation. Scheme 14 displays the fissions that allow a ready identification of the position of the tetrahydrofuran residue in a long chain but not the stereochemistry, the cis and trans isomers having nearly identical spectra (72MI31000). The series designated in that scheme was produced by the oxygenation of lipids... [Pg.584]

In two-parallel-head pumps the pistons are driven by two identical cam discs having a phase shift of 180°. The liquids displaced from both heads are combined in the outlet manifold assembly to produce a continuous solvent delivery. The two-heads-in-series design is used by most manufacturers. In this mode the second piston displaces a volume that is one-third or one-half of the volume displaced by the first piston (the working piston). During the working piston s forward stroke, the downstream piston is moving backward and its chamber is refilled at high pressure so that the flow rate delivered to the column is constant. [Pg.32]
