While this version of the KTL successfully captured known kinase inhibitor series, the goal for our next-generation KTL would be to apply de novo design methods to incorporate novel chemotypes and to incorporate more nonclassical chemotypes that bind to a protein kinase beyond the typical ATP pocket. 

After the number of test compounds which are to be selected from the basic set has been decided upon one can apply one of the series design techniques reported in the literature. Some of these methods apply to a restricted number of parameters (e.g. two in the Craig graphical method 12,13)) and structural variations (e.g. a limited number of aromatic and aliphatic substitution patterns as in the Topliss manual... 

Skubla [9] has designed a group contribution scheme which applies for various homologous series. His method relies on eq. 6.2.1 where both coefficients a0 and a have to be derived from group contributions and with respect to Nc. The model applies for n-alkanes, 1-alkenes, n-alkylcyclopentanes and n-alkylcyclohexanes, alkylbenzenes, 1-bromoalkanes, 1-alkanols, di-n-alkyl ethers, carboxylic acids and esters, 1-alkanethiols, 1-aminoalkanes, dialkylamines, alkaneamides, and some... 

Two full-scale high temperature ACR experimental facilities were built at the Marquardt Co. (18). The first series of tests examined oil penetration in a two-dimensional version of the ACR operating at typical conditions. The experience gained from this facility was used to construct a second test facility that verified the full-scale ACR gas yields and confirmed the scale-up design methods. Both tests used similar equipment and experimental techniques. 

Detailed discussions of possible techniques are beyond the scope of this paper. We will use "decision analysis as a general term for a series of methods. Others use this term only for techniques designed to take uncertainties explicitly into account. Some key methods in decision analysis are mentioned below. For further details, see Morgan [ 1 ].

Optimum design method for this material is presented, which is based on theoretical analysis for copolymer sensitivity and on dry etch rate dependence on polymer structure obtained by a series of experiments. A resist with high sensitivity (DUl H C /cm ), high resolution (<0.5 m) and high dry erch resistance was obtained.
