Self-cleaning time

The advantages claimed for organotin polymer-based antifouling paints include constant toxicant deHvery vs time, erosion rate and toxicant deHvery are controUable, no depleted paint residue to remove and dispose, 100% utilization of toxicant, polishing at high erosion rates, surface is self-cleaning, and function is continuously reactivated. [Pg.71]

The control of the self-cleaning procedure (pyrolysis) of especially equipped kitchen ovens is another focus of development. The underlying idea is to burn the organic residues at elevated temperatures (around 400 °C) and to detect the emerging volatile compounds. In order to minimize energy consumption, the process time should be kept as short as possible. During this process considerable amounts of CO and C02 are released. A decrease in concentration of these compounds can thus be taken is an indicator of the end of process. The most direct method would be the detection of C02 in the flue gas. The most common C02-... [Pg.163]

For example, Asuri and his co-workers (Asuri et al., 2007) reported that the proteases attached to the surface of SWCNTs can create self-cleaning surfaces that resist protein adsorption. This kind of SWCNT-enzyme composite exhibited 30 times higher overall catalytic activity than control composites where the proteases were conjugated to a non-nanoscale graphite support. Importantly, the enzymes preserved more than 90% of their initial activity over 30% days in the liquid buffer, with only negligible amounts of enzymes leaching out. The result demonstrates that the nanocomposites of SWCNTs and polymers can act as hosts for enzymes and can prevent protein contamination on the surface of medical devices. We consider that SWCNTs may have the function as biocatalyst to improve the enzyme activity attached to the surface of CNTs. Our previous work also indirectly hints that CNTs could improve the bioactivity of enzymes such as Taq enzyme Cui et al. (2004). However, there are also adverse reports. CNTs can... [Pg.187]

Next, we report the anti-fouling effect.33-37) The anti-fouling effect has been confirmed only qualitatively. The time course change of surface gloss of the substrates was measured by a commercial gloss meter A self-cleaning function can also be expected with TiO -coated substrates when small amounts of organic... [Pg.244]

Figure 6.7 indicates that the vegetative period for phytoplankton in the Barents Sea lasts 4.9 months as shown by the ecosystem s contribution to the self-cleaning of oil hydrocarbons (dashed curve). In the case considered, the Barents Sea ecosystem neutralizes about 25% of oil hydrocarbons during the vegetative period. The rest of the time this value oscillates near 3%. Dispersion of these estimates with latitude reaches 53%. For example, in the northern part of the Barents Sea the vegetative... [Pg.383]

Prismatic discs made of self-cleaning profiles, which are offset with respect to one another, are described as kneading elements. Here, it is impossible to transport bulk product without deformation. If, for example, plastic pellets are conveyed through a kneading element, they will be deformed and will be exposed to an energy input that contributes to the melting process. Kneading elements were described for the first time in [4]. [Pg.102]

The time interval b is a measure of the self-cleaning ability of the machine. Clearly, b represents the length of time that must be waited in order to ensure that, in the event of a color or product change, the content of the extruder has been exchanged completely at least once. [Pg.165]

Important parameters to be considered in the design of chlorination unit operations facilities shonld include chlorine feeders, dosage control, chlorine injection and initial mixing, contact time and chlorine dosage, and maintenance of self-cleaning velocities throngh the chlorine contact tank. Each of these will be discussed in succession. [Pg.773]

Example 17.20 A total flow of 1000 m /d is to be disinfected using ozone. What should be the cross-sectional area of the serpentine channel in order to maintain self-cleaning velocity What would be the total combined length of the channel if the contact time has been determined by a pilot study to be 20 min ... [Pg.786]

We reported our recent developed membranes called carbon whisker membrane (CWM) and c on-coated coamic membrane. The CWM performed a better permeant flux in the filtration process in comparison with the membrane without whiskers. Also, CWMs have a self-cleaning function which can increase the separation efficiency during die filtration and increase die lift-time of the membrane. The carbon-coated ceramic membranes with various pore sizes can be made for the puipose of nanofiltration. [Pg.84]

It has been found that the basal cells replicate continuously to provide a self-cleaning mechanism to the epithelial layer. Autoradiographic studies of cell proliferation were performed on normal human cervix and vagina. The turnover time, an indication of the time required for the replacement of the cell population, was determined from these studies. Results showed the basal layer to be relatively inactive with a turnover rate of 33 days, while active proliferation occurred in the parabasal layers with a turnover rate of 3 days. The intermediate and superficial layers were found to be inactive differentiating compartments. [Pg.1341]
