Such reclaimed rubber adhesives are suitable for packaging, fitting padding in ammunition boxes, canvas-to-wood, and for making kraft papers. They can also be used, if necessary, with small additions of softeners, as gunnable adhesives, and on building sites for securing wall panels. [Pg.180]

Place 5 ml. of benzaldehyde in a wide-necked stout-walled bottle of about 100 ml. capacity (a conical flask is too fragile for this purpose) and add 50 ml. of concentrated dy 0 880) ammonia solution. Cork the bottle securely, shake vigorously, and then allow to stand for 24 hours, by which time the layer of benzaldehyde at the bottom of the bottle will have been converted into a hard mass of hydrobenzamide. (If after 24 hours the crude hydrobenzamide is still syrupy, shake the mixture vigorously and allow to stand for another hour, when the conversion will be complete.) Break up the solid pellet with a strong spatula, filter at the pump, wash with water and drain thoroughly. Recrystallise from ethanol methylated spirit should not be used, as it contains sufficient water to cause partial hydrolysis back to benzaldehyde and ammonia. Hydrobenzamide is obtained as colourless crystals, m.p. 101° (and not 110° as frequently quoted) yield, 4 g. [Pg.230]

Cartridges are inserted in series into plastic or stainless-steel tubular pressure housings of square cross section (Fig. 14). Feed flows parallel to the leaf surface. It features a lightweight construction of a large area with a thin metal wall. ludirect-coohiig applications have been made with poor thermal performance, as could be expected with a static layer. For service environments in which erosion is anticipated, the wall thickness of the apparatus should be increased. This thickness allowance should secure that various types of corrosion or erosion do not reduce the apparatus wall thickness below that required for mechanical stability of the operation. Accidents have occurred because hot water was not treated with respect. Five men were killed when a plastic hot-water tank split along a seam [14J. On another plant, a man, about to make some tea, caught his sleeve on the tap of an electric water heater. The heater fell over, 2 gal of hot water fell on him, and he died in the hospital five days later [15]. The heater should have been fixed to the wall. If it had contained a hazardous chemical, it would have been secured, but no one thought hot water was hazardous. Chemicals are not the only hazards on a plant. [Pg.248]

DRY-TYPE LINER is a special cast-iron, full length of the cylinder, shrunk in place, and securely locked against any movement. PISTON is usually cast-iron, locked on the rod between a solid collar and a nut. If a cylinder size is such that sufficient piston wall thickness is not available, the piston and rod are forged integrally as shown, and special inserted rider rings are included to improve wearing qualities. [Pg.374]
