If the ball bearing should be exchanged, screw jack screws into the threaded holes of the conveyor pulley and tighten against the protecting cover until the bearing is pressed loose. [Pg.45]

Several devices have been developed for the irtrsitu tensile testing of fibres and filaments. To combat the poor sensitivity of the spectrometers, it is usual to strain several fibres simultaneously. Verma and Peterlin looped nylon 6 fibres between two holders, so that the fibres passed through the cavity, with the holders outside the active zone. The holders formed sealed ends to suprasfl quartz tube which could be evacuated to < 10 mm Hg. One holder was fixed, while the other holder was moved by a hand operated screw jack. No provision was made for simultaneously measuring load/deformation curves, which had to be obtained from conventional tensile tests on other fibres. [Pg.25]

The screw jack assanbly failed due to inadequate maintenance, resulting in the loss of 88 lives. Even though this was a predictable failure, the designers seemed to have considered it so improbable as not to provide adequate flight crew reference cards with effective recovery instructions/limitations. [Pg.341]

Many variations of slitting head designs, each having certain advantages and disadvantages, are available. However, all can generally be resolved to be either screw Jack or eccentric types. [Pg.96]

Traditional vertical controls of the top versus bottom work roll flights are through a system of worm wheel screw jacks, either directly connected or through wedges. These screw jacks may be driven by either electric or hydraulic motors. In either case, the setting is mechanical, precise, repeatable, and relatively free of backlash. The same is true of the drives for vertical backup roll adjustment, whether by wedge or otherwise. [Pg.206]

When using hydraulic power tools, use approved fire-resistant fluids that will retain operating characteristics at the most extreme temperatures. Never exceed the manufacturer s recommended safe operating pressure for hoses, valves, pipes, filters, and other fittings. Ensure that all lever and ratchet jacks, screw jacks, and hydraulic jacks contain a device that stops them from jacking up too high. Mark the manufacturer s load limit in a prominent place on the jack. Never use a jack to support a lifted load. [Pg.103]

The split outer mould and the tapered (5 ) central plug are manufactured from aluminium alloy (BS 1470-HS-30) to a conventional design Provision is made on the mould for a screw jacking system to apply moderate pressure to the plug, used in the later stages of moulding to consolidate the glass fabric/epoxy resin. [Pg.368]

All jacks (lever and ratchet jacks, screw jacks, and hydranlic jacks) mnst have a device that stops them from jacking np too high. Also, the mannfacturer s load limit mnst be permanently marked in a prominent place on the jack and shonld not be exceeded. A jack shonld never be nsed to snpport a lifted load. Once the load has been lifted, it must immediately be blocked up. Use wooden blocking under the base if necessary to make the jack level and secnre. If the lift snrface is metal, place a 1-inch-thick hardwood block or eqnivalent between it and the metal jack head to rednce the danger of slippage. To set np a jack, make certain of the following ... [Pg.438]

B.C.E. Screw Described by Archimedes, the screw is a simple machine that appears to be a ramp wound around a shaft. It converts a smaller turning force to a larger vertical force, as in a screw jack. [Pg.2031]

Where leveling of the scaffold is necessary, screw jacks or equivalent means shall be used. [Pg.512]

DeNora DN 350 Bipolar Electrolyzer. The DeNora DN 350 bipolar electrolyzers (Fig. 61) is of the filter-press type. The frames are very large (3.5 m ) and are compressed by mechanical screw jacks to ensure proper tightness. The electrolyzer can be operated with a slight overpressure. Anolyte and catholyte are recirculated in the cell by baffle plates and special downcomers. Fresh brine and diluted caustic soda are fed to the bottom section of each compartment. Anolyte with CI2 and catholyte with H2 leave the elements through insert pipes at the bottom of the cell. The electric current flows from the anode to the cathode surface through an array of welded electrical connectors of highly conductive metals (e.g., steel or copper). These connectors are interposed between the titanium anode wall and the nickel cathode wall, to which they are welded. The cathode walls are cold pressed to create a pattern of bulges. [Pg.100]

In addition to a melt film existing between solids bed and barrel surface, a melt film can also form between the solids bed and screw surface. This can promote a phenomenum called solids bed break-up . It was demonstrated by Edmondson and Fenner [6] where in addition to using both screw jacking and split barrel techniques, the melting rate was continuously monitored by observing pressure traces from a number of melt pressure transducers fitted along the length of the barrel. [Pg.105]

Further trials using screw jacking following rapid barrel cooling compared sections from a conventional screw with the one fitted with the Maddock element. The feed material was LDPE with carbon black masterbatch. Figure 7.12 shows photomicrographs of microtomed channel cross sections taken every two turns and Figure 7.13 shows cross sections from the die adaptor. [Pg.111]

Examination following screw jacking showed material flow was restricted to the central part of the barrier [14] (see Figure 7.14). [Pg.114]

Experiments carried out using a 38 mm extruder with a screw jacking facility verified that individual masterbatch pellets were transformed into individual finite striations during melting [3]. [Pg.136]

In fact this idea was not completely original, but a recognition that this starved feeding behaviour illustrated by Maddock [8] in screw jacking experiments could be suitable for the avoidance of agglomerates generated by normal full channel extrusion. [Pg.235]

The rotoklon with the adjustable sinusoidal lobes, presented in Figure 10.1 consists of a body (3) with connecting influent (7) and effluent (5) pipes. Moving of the overhead lobes (2) can be done by screw jacks (6), and the lower lobes (1) are fixed on an axis 8 with rotation capability. The rotation angle of the lower lobes is chosen from a condition of a persistence of speeds of an airborne dust flow. For rotation angle, regulation of a... [Pg.167]

The above force mechanisms are shared by both fastening screws and translating screws. The screws in the latter group - studied in this monograph - are commonly known as lead screws and are used for transmitting force and/or positioning by converting rotary to translational motion. In power transmission apphcations, lead screws are also known as power screws [34, 35]. When used in vertical apphcations, these systems are sometimes called screw jacks [1]. [Pg.7]
