Science disciplines

All of the science disciplines contribute to the body of information and knowledge that is used by pharmaceutical researchers, educators, and practitioners. Questions and information needs that arise within a pharmaceutical specialty will not necessarily be met by the literature associated with that specialty [13]. Researchers and academics particularly need access to a broad range of science literature. English is widely used however, the biomedical literature is and has been truly international [13]. About 86% of the current MEDLINE database is English language even though only 52% of current cited articles were published in the United States [20]. [Pg.764]

Dimensional analysis is useful in two respects. (1) It can be used to determine the units of a variable in an equation. (2) Using the normal rules of algebra, it can be used to determine whether an equation is dimensionally correct, i.e. the units should balance on either side of the equation. All equations in any science discipline are dimensionally... [Pg.13]

People without some course work and experience in these computer science disciplines tend to make mistakes and flounder at this stage. [Pg.29]

The requirement for life sciences disciplines to discover and optimize small molecules with a heightened sense of capacity and timeliness has led to an explosion in methodologies to synthesize organic compounds in greater... [Pg.149]

Under the project offices, the Microgravity Research Program is divided into nine major areas five science disciplines, three research infrastructure programs and the Space Product Development Office,... [Pg.740]

The science disciplines include Biotechnology, Fluid Physics, Materials Science, Combustion Science and Fundamental Physics, The infrastructure activities include Acceleration Measurement. Advanced Technology and the Glovebox Flight Programs. [Pg.740]

The concept of photoswitchable biomaterial can be extended to different biological functions, such as cofactors, inhibitors, enzymes, receptors, hormones, antigens/antibodies, DNA, etc. This opens a broad spectrum of applications in different biomaterial science disciplines. [Pg.209]

Fuming flasks, white lab coats, explosions, toxic substances—these are images that often come to mind when people think of chemists and chemistry. For ordinary people, chemistry is often vastly misunderstood and is often considered too difficult to grasp. Steve Zumdahl (1993) writes that it is impossible to define (chemistry) concisely because the field is so diverse and because its practitioners perform such an incredible variety of jobs. This statement provides a much broader vision of chemistry than simply the study of matter. An understanding of chemical concepts is essential not only for chemistry majors but also for other science majors and even students with undecided majors as it leads to a richer understanding of other science disciplines, health fields, and societal issues. [Pg.145]

In The Sciences An Integrated Approach, Trefil and Hazen present great unifying ideas or themes in science and include a web of how the great idea has been applied in different science disciplines. In many cases, the application in the different disciplines requires an understanding of basic chemistry. For example, one of their great ideas across the sciences states Ecosystems, interdependent collections of living... [Pg.145]

Since many of the analytes that will be included in the discussions are important in more than just one of the science disciplines that make up the title of this chapter, it is perhaps more efficient to group them according to their structural similarities and in that way to reduce the number of unnecessary duplications. A convenient division is to group them into three categories as molecules that ... [Pg.253]

This division of the earlier book into two new titles is designed to accommodate the needs of what are now two rather separate markets. An Introduction to Pollution Science is designed for courses within degrees in environmental sciences, environmental studies and related areas including taught postgraduate courses, which are not embedded in a specific physical science or life science discipline such as chemistry,... [Pg.400]

As I anticipated, immediately upon publication of the book, it was out of date. Computational chemistry, like all science disciplines, is a constantly changing field. New studies are published, new theories are proposed, and old ideas are replaced with new interpretations. I attempted to address the need for the book to remain current in some manner by creating a complementary blog at http //www.comporgchem.com/blog. The blog posts describe the results of new... [Pg.628]

Science disciplines can also be classified in different ways such as physical sciences, pure and applied sciences, social sciences, positive sciences, life sciences, etc... [Pg.12]

Why is the Royal Society of Chemistry publishing a book covering basic information and exercises in chemical analysis A few examples will serve to illustrate that there is indeed a need to address the very basic problems encountered in analytical chemistry laboratories through education and training not only in chemistry departments but also in other life science disciplines. Here are some excerpts from records in workfiles detailing customer requests ... [Pg.9]

The managing director must be a nurse with a baccalaureate degree, associate degree, or three-year diploma a pharmacist or a physician or may hold a degree in a life science discipline if a diplomate of the American Board of Applied Toxicology. If the managing director is also the medical director, this person must have a full-time commitment to the poison center. [Pg.765]

Applicants must be a graduate of a college or university with an earned doctoral degree in a biomedical discipline. Applicants without doctoral degrees must possess a baccalaureate degree in a health science discipline, such as pharmacy or nursing, followed by a minimum of five years of full-time professional experience in applied clin-... [Pg.769]

New faculty and incoming graduate students in macromolecular chemistry continue to show intense interest in the interface of macromolecular chemistry with emerging life sciences disciplines. In addition, many more students are now interested in entrepreneurship and working with small start-up companies. [Pg.121]
