Sampling and analysis plan

The purpose of a sampling and analysis plan (SAP) is to ensure that sampling data collection activities will be comparable to and compatible with previous data collection activities performed at the site, while providing a mechanism for planning and approving field activities. The plan also serves as a basis for estimating costs of field efforts for inclusion in the work plan. [Pg.598]

The JACADS closure activities will involve the dismantling and destruction of that portion of the facility that cannot be decontaminated to meet the 5R cleanliness standard. An area decommissioning matrix delineates the areas that will be decontaminated and dismantled, decontaminated and abandoned in place, or solely abandoned in place (U.S. Army, 2000c). The remaining systems, structures, and components (SSCs) that are left in place must meet the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) criteria for decontamination as well as the Army standard of 5R. Areas that were kept free of any agent or hazardous materials will be sampled to demonstrate their cleanliness in accordance with the final closure sampling and analysis plan. [Pg.34]

The Facility Closure Plan includes two sampling and analysis plans. The first, Sampling and Analysis Plan for HWMU Closure (Appendix 2 in the Plan), includes requirements and procedures for conducting field sampling operations and investigations of soils and structures associated with the MDB and the HWMUs, as well as data quality objectives and field sampling protocols that could be used to verify decontamination (U.S. Army, 2000a). [Pg.40]

The foundation for the collection of relevant and valid data is laid out in the planning phase through the completion of Task 1—Data Quality Objectives (DQOs) Development and Task 2—Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) Preparation. Planning is the most critical phase of the data collection process as it creates a foundation for the success of the implementation and assessment phases. Two major tasks of the planning phase, as shown in Figure 2.1, are Task 1—Data Quality Objectives Development and Task 2—Sampling and Analysis Plan Preparation. The SAP summarizes the project objectives and requirements for environmental chemical data collection. [Pg.11]

The information contained in Groups A, B, C, and D can be logically broken down into two distinctive parts that describe the field and analytical laboratory objectives, with each part presented in a separate document. The elements that address field activities are removed from the QAPP and segregated into a document that is called Field Sampling Plan (FSP). The two documents, the FSP and the QAPP, constitute the Sampling and Analysis Plan. A short introduction to the SAP may describe the purpose of its two parts and tie them together under a single cover. [Pg.80]

The advantage of the SAP format is a clear division of the field and laboratory activities and the ensuing focus of the field and laboratory personnel on their respective tasks. The USACE SAP format by being extremely detailed serves as a comprehensive model for the preparation of the sampling and analysis plans (USACE, 1994). The disadvantage of the USACE format is a certain redundancy, as the same information on project description, history, background, organization, and schedule needs to be repeated twice, in the FSP and in the QAPP. (In practice, once these sections have been included in the FSP, they may be incorporated into the QAPP by reference.)... [Pg.80]

Unnecessarily stringent or unrealistic well stabilization parameter acceptance criteria are the cause of excessive water removal during well purging, which may drive some wells to dryness. When preparing sampling and analysis plans for unknown sites, we can only arbitrarily select and propose the commonly used acceptance criteria and apply them during baseline sampling. Once initial information on stabilization parameter performance is obtained, acceptance criteria should be revised to reflect specific conditions in the well. [Pg.141]

Therefore, facilities must report under the TRI if any of the above compounds used, processed or manufactured exceed the threshold in the course of a calendar year. The threshold for dioxin applies to initial manufacture or import of the defined dioxin congener. If a substance containing dioxins is purchased for further processing from another manufacturer or importer, those dioxins are not reportable on the TRI since those dioxins already existed and were reported by the manufacturer or importer of the product. It should also be noted that actual analysis of raw materials and products for trace contaminants is not required. However, faced with the prospect of conservatively estimating dioxins or total PCB contents within products, many companies may undertake sampling and analysis plans. Such plans may avoid reporting contaminants that are not actually present. The... [Pg.418]
