Safety mechanism

The event or series of events diat will inidate an accident has to be identified. An event could be a failure to follow correct safety procedures, improperly repaired equipment, or failure of a safety mechanism. 

The system can prevent explosion, fire, and venting with fire under conditions of abuse. These batteries have a unique battery chemistry based on LiAsF6/l,3-di-oxolane/tributylamine electrolyte solutions which provide internal safety mechanism that protect the batteries from short-circuit, overcharge and thermal runaway upon heating to 135 °C. This behavior is due to the fact that the electrolyte solution is stable at low-to-medium temperatures but polymerizes at a temperature over 125 °C... 

Before the accident at least 6 safety mechanisms were disconnected to conduct experiments to increase the output of the reactor. This was the direct cause of the accident and as the power output surged from 7 to 50% in a few seconds there was a lost of coolant. The heat then melted the graphite rods used as a moderator. 

As host defense peptides are membrane-active molecules, safety mechanisms must be employed to avoid deleterious contacts with host cells. These mechanisms may involve the limitation of peptide activation to specific environments or niche-specific amplification. That most ct-helical peptides remain unstructured in aqueous solution and undergo conformational transitions to an activated state within hydrophobic environments supports this postulate. It has also been postulated that the order of anionic phospholipids in microbial plasma membranes likely induces optimal periodicity of polar residues within host defense peptides at the membrane surface. ... 

Contact Mines were generally spherical, with several lead, steel horns screwed into the mine case. Horns were of several types but the most common was a lead chemical horn, such as described above under Type JE Antiboat Land Mine. Some contact mines had a long copper wire antenna extending out of the top or bottom of the case. Should a steel ship touch the antenna while both were immersed in sea water, the mine would explode. Moored contact mines usually had some type of safety mechanism to render them inactive if they borke adrift, as well as devices to make sure the mines were safe while aboard the mine-laying ship, submarine, or plane (p 34) ...

SPADING MACHINES. Spading machines work with tools that cut through the soil, and they can easily mix the soil. They can he used down to a depth of 50 cm. A shear holt safety mechanism prevents the tools being broken if there are unexpected objects in the soil. 

In GPPS systems, these peroxides mainly supplemented the free radicals generated by thermal initiation, whereas in the HIPS process, it was found that they could enhance the grafting of styrene to unsaturated rubbers, such as polybutadiene. Additional benefits of organic peroxide initiators were increased production per unit reactor volume, reduction of styrene oligomers and lower reactor temperatures. The instantaneous removal of peroxide feed to a runaway reactor also provides a safety mechanism. Peroxide-initiated systems have higher reaction rates owing to shorter reactor residence times, so the ability to remove one source of radical initiation quickly is important. 

According to Yount et al. the alteration of peptide conformation can be part of a safety-mechanism that control peptide cytotoxicity by keeping peptides inactive prior to interaction with appropriate microbial targets [88].
