The Respiratory Protection Program provides standards for respirator fit-testing. The goals of respirator fit-testing are to (1) provide the employee with a face seal on a respirator that exhibits the greatest protective and comfortable fit, and (2) to instruct the employee on the proper use of respirators and their limitations. Measurements of Co and Ci are obtained only while the respirator is being worn during performance of normal work tasks (i.e., samples are not collected when the respirator is not being worn). Your employer must ensure that your respirator face-piece fits properly. Proper fit of a respirator facepiece is critical to your protection from airborne lead. Obtaining a proper fit on each employee may require your employer to make available several different types of respirator masks.
