Standards revision

The third key issue involves data handling. To take full advantage of the complementary nature of the data, it is desirable to handle all the spectral information in a single system. In our lab the IR and MS data are handled separately by the Nicolet and Hewlett Packard computer systems, respectively. Current commercial instruments also handle MS and IR data on separate systems, with only limited communications between the two computers. On our instrument, the following computer-based libraries were used to search unknown spectra IR - EPA Vapor Phase MS - National Bureau of Standards, Revision F. 

Consistent with the USP policy of emphasis on public participation in standards setting, open conferences and meetings are held to allow interactive examination of selected topics. Twenty-five of these conferences were held between 1980 and 1999, with an average attendance of approximately 150. Roundtable format is used to get maximum participation policy initiatives as well as proposed standards revisions on the table.

The new test method now being used to test roof deck constructions, that contain polystyrene directly over steel decks, is similarly validated. To complete the understanding and acceptance of the new test, UL is documenting the White House Test and the new smaller scale fire test procedure and acceptance criteria. Based on several experimental data American Nuclear Society (ANS) has assembled decay heat standard ANS-5.1-1979 that contained a single curve to represent all uranium-fueled reactors (Schrock, 1979). The latest version of the standard is ANS-5.1-1994 (Current Standard, Revision of ANSl/ANS-5.1-1979 R1985). The standard was developed to fulfill a need for evaluations of fission reactor performance dependent upon knowledge of decay heat power in the fuel elements. The ANS-5.1 standard provides bases for determining the shutdown decay heat power and its uncertainty following shutdown of LWRs. 

In 1990, IS-41, revision A was approved. It is not compatible with revision 0 because it used TCAP messages based on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), instead of the CCITT standard. Revision A also added the use of the SS7 protocol as well as X. 25, but the SS7 links had to be point-to-point between the respective MSCs. Moreover, revision A also added the ability to transfer features such as call waiting, three-way caDing, and call forwarding.

Other technological challenges that need to be addressed are better integrated BOM, AVL, and CAD data packaging coming out of design houses, and tool support for specifications, standards, revision information, and ECO data in an online framework.

Revisions The A10 Committee welcomes proposals for revisions to this standard. Revisions are made to the standard periodically (usually five years from the date of the standard) to incorporate changes that appear necessary or desirable, as demonstrated by experience gained from the application of the standard. Proposals should be as specific as possible, citing the relevant paragraph number(s), the proposed wording, and the reason for the proposal. Pertinent documentation would enable the A10 Committee to process the changes in a more timely manner.
