Resist printing

Although the black inks are predominantly based on mineral oil, colors are almost entirely formulated with a soya bean oil vehicle. The superior printabHity of colors and economics of blacks guide the selection of product types by the market. Recently developed low mb blacks offer smudge-resistant print. Their share of the market is growing rapidly. The low mb characteristics of these inks are produced through the use of low stmcture carbon black. The addition of resin further enhances the smudge resistance but imposes a premium price. [Pg.249]

Other techniques, such as resist printing, cold batch printing, and transfer printing, have previously been appHed to wool with some success, but these occupy only a small share of the current wool printing market (104). [Pg.349]

Resist Printing. In resist printing, print pastes are used that can inhibit the development or fixation of different dyes that are apphed to the textile prior to or after printing. These resists can be of a chemical or mechanical nature, or combine both methods. For example, fiber-reactive dyes, which require alkaU for their fixation, can be made resistant by printing a nonvolatile organic acid, such as tartaric acid, on the textile. Colored resists are obtained by printing pigments with a nonvolatile acid. [Pg.373]

Wax Printing. This is a special case of resist printing and widely used in African designs. Wax is first printed onto cotton fabric to give a patterned effect, and the fabric is then dyed. The wax resists penetration of the dye and reserves the fabric. The wax is then removed by either alkaU washing or solvent when it is also recovered for future use. Other colors can then be printed, if so desired, on the nondyed areas. A2oic dyes or reactive dyes can be used for this. [Pg.373]

Styles of printing include direct priming, discharge printing, resist printing, and wax printing. [Pg.526]

In addition to the normal direct printing process disperse dyes can be applied by the so-called transfer printing technique, in which disperse dyes are first printed on paper and then transferred to the textile by sublimation. With suitable dyes discharge and resist printing are also possible. See also [139],... [Pg.402]

Latex copolymers including NIBA have found applications in protective coatings, binders for nonwoven fabrics, water and oil repellancy, crease resistance, print pastes, leather finishing, adhesives, paper impregnation, curable thickeners and elastomers. Like cellulose and starch, locust bean gum is able to form derivatives through reaction of the hydroxyl groups. The methyl ether has been prepared for constitutional work. For the time being only the water-soluble derivatives (hydroxyethyl and carboxymethyl ether) are of practical interest. They are used as alkali-resistant printing thickeners. [Pg.59]

During the twentieth century, the majority of textiles came to be printed by screen-based processes. Silk-screen printing was patented in England in 1907 (Simon, 1907), although techniques such as katazome or resist printing through paper... [Pg.23]

Direct printing - A process wherein the colors for the desired designs are applied directly to the white or dyed cloth, as distinguished from discharge printing and resist printing. [Pg.790]

For inkjet printing, waterfast non-black inks are highly desirable in inkjet printing to produce water-resistant prints (30). Decreasing the solubility of the dye increases the waterfastness, and vice versa. [Pg.54]

Chemical Crimping n A crinkled or puckered effect in fabric obtained by printing sodium hydroxide onto the goods in a planned design. When the material is washed, the part to which the paste has been applied will shrink and cause untreated areas to pucker. The same effect is obtained with a caustic resist print and a sodium hydroxide bath. [Pg.137]
