RESEARCH PROJECT SCOPE

Over the past five years at the national level, NILECJ has funded a number of significant research projects in the forensic science area. Many of these projects have included the refinement or development of new techniques and instrumentation to facilitate the examination of physical evidence. Research also has examined the operations of laboratories and the manner in which they interface with other components of the criminal justice system. Other research has contributed to the development of completely new fields, such as voiceprint identification, which are now outside the scope of most forensic laboratory capabilities.

A number of research projects have been commissioned by the Foods Standards Agency in the UK to study the effects that rubber has on food. A brief description of the scope of four such projects is given below. 

The evacuation of vessels is an important process and has many applications in teaching, research and industry. Although engineers and physicists make extensive use of metal systems, which are outside the scope of a glassblower, glass vacuum systems are widely used in chemistry laboratories for many short-term research projects and for teaching and demonstration purposes. 

Within the scope of a research project [3], the prEN and ISO/DIS draft type test standards, especially the methods for determination of the efficiency and the measuring of the emissions, were compared with a continuous burning appliance by the Center of Appropriate Technology, Langenbruck. The efficiencies evaluated by both methods vary only marginal at all tested bum rates. The differences are within the accuracy range of the said test methods. The same is true for emission measuring methods. The measurements show that the test method with direct determination (calorimeter room) and the indirect determination (flue gas) of the efficiency can be considered as equivalent (Fig. I) The same can be concluded for the measurements of emissions in the flue gas and the dilution tunnel (Fig. 2). Provided that the test procedures are identical for both standards, equivalent results for efficiencies and emissions are obtained. 

An expert system shell developed in the MYCIN project is EMYCIN, which was used to develop other expert systems. One of these systems is PUEE, designed for the domain of heart disorders. Another outcome was the ventilator manager (VM) program developed as a collaborative research project between Stanford University and Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco within the scope of a Ph.D. thesis by Lawrence M. Fagan [6]. VM was designed to interpret on-line quantitative data in the intensive care unit. The system measures the patient s heart rate, blood pressure, and the status of operation of a mechanical ventilator that assists the patient s breathing. Based on this information, the system controls the ventilator and makes necessary adjustments. 

The scope, organization, format, review method, final report, and frequency are discussed as they apply to research projects. The concept of tailoring the review method to the degree of hazard involved is explained and an example of a Process Hazards Review and a Pre-Startup Review/Process Hazards Audit are given.

She was hired as a chemist with the Cane Sugar Relining Research Project in 1969 and in 1972 was named the administrator of the Project. In 1981, she became the Managing Director of the organization, which at the time expanded its scope and was renamed Sugar Processing Research Institute, Inc. She remained in this position until the time of her death. 

However, since most of the photo-excited electrons are most likely transferred to V sites, they should be transferred to the H sites, minimizing any possible source of loss, particularly during the proto-reduction process. This might be realized, for instance, by a co-catalyst. However, this goes beyond the scope of the present study and will be taken on in a forthcoming research project. 

Start the preparation of the planned Co-ordinated Research Project (CRP) on Generalization and Analyses of Operational Experience with Fast Reactor Equipment and Systems (narrow down scope and objectives of the CRP, propose a detailed work plan). 

The scope and nature of the proposed work make it possible to reliably implement it within the framework of Coordinate Research Project. 

The aim of this volume is to understand the synthetic foundations for the construction of macromolecular nanostructured materials and to describe the reviews and results of each research project supported as frontier topics. This volume endeavors to serve as a reference work not only for specialists and non-specialists but also for graduate students who are interested in learning about national projects conducted in countries all around the world. By including articles from various different scientific backgrounds, we hope that this will increase the knowledge of the readers and impress upon them the scope of the field of nanoscience. 

The article referenced at the beginning of the chapter reports the scope of SCM activity in a research project at Ohio State University headed by Douglas M. Lambert, professor of transportation and logistics. His research recommends that supply chains have three elements (1) network structure, (2) business processes, and (3) management components. The nine management components the researchers define are worth repeating here ... 

The measurements in Fig. 5.28 were partially performed by Friedaike Knecht within the scope of a supervised research project. 

In terms of scope, probability and statistics are some of the widest, most diverse fields in applied mathematics. If a research project involves items that must be counted or measured in some way, statistics will be part of the analysis. It is common to associate statistics with research in the sciences, but an art historian tracking changes in the use of color in painting from one century to another is just as likely to use a form of statistical analysis as a biologist working in a laboratory. Similarly, probability is used by anyone relying on numbers to make an educated guess about events in the future.
