Reference plate

Atmospheric corrosion tests were continued for years with number of panels, and to have traceability, each uncoated panel was marked by hole with respect to reference plate made as per standard [3] as shown in Fig 2.5. The reference plate made of Aluminium has identical size of test panels and a hole is made in left hand corner marked as R, which stands for reference mark. Just below this hole, nine holes are made vertically engraving numbers 1-9 and similarly, in the right hand side, again nine holes are made vertically giving numbers 10-90 from top to bottom. At the top of the panel, five holes are made horizontally to represent hundreds. [Pg.44]

Historically, the first and most important capacitance method is the vibrating capacitor approach implemented by Lord Kelvin in 1897. In this technique (now called the Kelvin probe), the reference plate moves relative to the sample surface at some constant frequency and tlie capacitance changes as tlie interelectrode separation changes. An AC current thus flows in the external circuit. Upon reduction of the electric field to zero, the AC current is also reduced to zero. Originally, Kelvin detected the zero point manually using his quadrant electrometer. Nowadays, there are many elegant and sensitive versions of this technique. A piezoceramic foil can be used to vibrate the reference plate. To minimize noise and maximize sensitivity, a phase-locked... [Pg.1894]

For the condition of straight operating and equilibrium curves, the number of plates can be calculated including the reference plate (number seven in this case) [59]. [Pg.67]

Nn = Number of theoretical trays above feed, or reference plate, n, but not including n Nm = Number of theoretical trays before feed tray Njra = Mols of immiscible liquid No = Mols of non-volatile material present or, number of theoretical trays/stages in column only, not reboiler or condenser Ng = Mols of steam... [Pg.105]

The reference plate is prepared differently. A known quantity of sample is added to a known volume of system solution of known pH with the amount of sample comparable to that found in the sample plate, and no effort is made in this step to suppress precipitation in the formed solution. A volume Y of the cosolvent is immediately added to a volume Z of reference solution to produce a new solution, in which the compound is now diluted by Z/(Y + Z). The spectrum of the solution is then immediately taken by the UV spectrophotometer. Mathematical treatment of the spectral data yields the area under the curve of the cosolvent reference solution, AUC 0S. Define Rcos = AUC 0S /AUC(v os. The solubility of the sample compound then is... [Pg.109]

Einally, as profiling assays run repeatedly in cycles, unlike HTS campaigns, it is wise to create a reference plate with well characterized, diverse compounds to be tested at a frequency of 3-4 months. This test set ensures that any shift in dynamic range, technical fault associated with plate outlay, alteration of reagent quality or liquid handling is detected. [Pg.50]

For most other purposes, both before and after processing, color is measured using a colorimeter such as a Minolta Chroma Meter (Minolta Corp., Ramsey, NJ). The instrument is calibrated against a standard-white (Minolta) reference plate. Hunter L (whiteness), a (greenness) and b (yellowness) values were determined for each sample and made directly from the potato surface (Nourian et al., 2003). [Pg.228]

Reflectance values on Cobas Ready as on any diffuse reflector are measured as the quantities of light reflected from a reagent layer saturated with a serum sample (/,) or from a white or black reference plate (/ and 4), each normalized to the incident light intensity monitored by the reference photodetector... [Pg.26]

The standard compounds will all be available as solutions of 1 g of each dissolved in 20 mL of a 50 50 mixture of methylene chloride and ethanol. The purpose of the first reference plate is to determine the order of elution (R values) of the known substances and to index the standard reference mixture. Several of the substances have similar Revalues, but you will note a different behavior for each spot with the visualization methods. On the sample plate, the standard reference mixture will be spotted, along with Naproxen sodium and several solutions that you will prepare from commercial analgesic tablets. These tablets will each be crushed and dissolved in a 50 50 methylene chloride-ethanol mixture for spotting. [Pg.91]

When the reference plate has been spotted, obtain a 16-oz wide-mouth, screw-cap jar (or other suitable container) for use as a development chamber. The preparation of a development chamber is described in Technique 20, Section 20.5. Because the backing on the TLC plates is very thin, if they touch the filter paper liner of the development chamber at any point, solvent will begin to diffuse onto the absorbent surface at that point. To avoid this, you may either omit the liner or make the following modification. [Pg.94]
