Reduction gears

Portable or fixed mixers up to 5hp normally use propellers and run at either direct drive speeds of 1,150 or l,750rpm or at single reduction gear drive speeds between 300 and 420 rpm. They may either be clamped on the rim of open tanks or mounted with a fixed assembly for open or closed tank operation. These mixers are the most economical and are usually used in tanks without baffles. They are rugged and long-lasting. [Pg.207]

This tower uses fans at the top of the tower to draw air in the base of the tower through the fill and out the fan discharge (Figures 9-103-105). In this type of mechanical draft tower the hot moist air discharges vertically (usually) to the atmosphere with such a velocity as to eliminate the possibility of recirculation of this air in at the base of the tower. This moist air is corrosive to the fan parts and therefore requires protection of coated plastic or special metal blades and sealed motors and reduction gears. [Pg.380]

The most common use of the gas turbine power system in the oil and gas industry is in combination with an electrical system (i.e., electric generators and electric motors). In 1965 such a system was used to power a rotary rig. This was a 3,000-hp rig developed by Continental-Ensco. The rig used three 1,100-hp Solar Saturn single-shaft gas turbines. These gas turbines operated at 22,300 rpm and were connected through double reduction gear transmissions to DC generators. [Pg.400]

When the fuzed bomb is released free to arm, the vane carrier is unlocked from the striker flange by withdrawal of the arming wire. The vane carrier then rotates by action of the airstream on the arming-vane assembly, driving the reduction gears which arm the fuze. Completion of 175 revolutions of the arming-vane assembly (which requires ca 1000-ft of air travel along the trajectory) arm the fuze fully. [Pg.969]

Tail Fuzes AN-M100A2 and the other thirteen fuzes listed in Ref 51a, p 4-35 are vane-armed and inertia-fired. Arming is mechanically delayed by reduction gearing. When issued the fuzes are equipped with either a nondelay or a 0.025-sec delay primer-detonator M14, which can be... [Pg.979]

Tail Fuzes M112A1, M113A1 and Ml 14Al differ from the M115 series in that they do not have reduction gears in the vane assembly and, therefore, can arm move quickly. They are designed for use with box fins and differ from each other only in length. Each type has the same diam (1.43-inches), but their wts are different (2.3, 2.5 2.8-lb, respectively)... [Pg.981]

When the fuzed bomb is dropped, the arming wire of the fuze becomes withdrawn (because it remains retained in the bomb rack), and this frees the arming-vane assembly to rotate in the airstream. The revolving motion of the assembly is transmitted thru the reduction gears to the arming stem,... [Pg.988]

Functioning. The firming vane drives a high speed (coupling) shaft and, thru a reduction gear train, a slow speed shaft. [Pg.997]

This problem was resolved before the second experiment by changing the reduction gear ratio of the pumps. [Pg.562]

Several parameters affect the efficiency of steam turbines, as shown partially on Figure 4.1. Closer examination will need to take into account specific mechanical details which usually are left to the manufacturer. Geared turbines [the dashed line of Fig. 4.1(b)] have higher efficiencies, even with reduction gear losses, because they operate with especially high bucket speeds. For example, for a service of 500 HP with 300psig steam, a geared turbine has an efficiency of 49.5% and one with a direct drive at 1800 rpm has an efficiency of 24%. [Pg.64]

The granulator comprises a rotary plate mounted on a shaft in a pivoted-frame bearing assembly. The plate is rotated by a drive roller which makes contact with its contact surface. The roller drive turns on the motor, V-belt transmission, and reduction gear. [Pg.167]

Mixing by means of a draw-lift turbine is the most modem and efficient method (Fig. 33). The turbine is rotated at high speed (several hundred r.p.m.) and powered by an electric motor with a worm reduction gear. The turbine draws the liquid... [Pg.158]
