The most common use of the gas turbine power system in the oil and gas industry is in combination with an electrical system (i.e., electric generators and electric motors). In 1965 such a system was used to power a rotary rig. This was a 3,000-hp rig developed by Continental-Ensco. The rig used three 1,100-hp Solar Saturn single-shaft gas turbines. These gas turbines operated at 22,300 rpm and were connected through double reduction gear transmissions to DC generators.

Traditionally, system oils were simply rust- and oxidation-inhibited mineral oils but the use of high sulphur residual fuels required the introduction of alkaline system oils to provide adequate corrosion protection. A typical system oil now has a BN (base number, see Section 13.8.2) of 5 and sufficient detergency to keep crankcases and piston cooling spaces clean. They are also used to lubricate turbo chargers, stern tubes, deck machinery, geared transmissions and other equipment. 

When the S4 is opened. 2 -Gear transmission fluid is acted on the valve and adjust the supply output pressure (BAF) to 1.4 times of S5 signal pressure. When the S4 is closed, the output pressure is 1.4 times of pressure of line 500.

The specification of the wind turbine is done based on its five main components Rotor System (RS), Gear Transmission (GT), Pitch Control (PC), Hydraulic System (HS) and Control unit and Safety equipment (CS). The turbine system comprises a series structure, i.e. one failed component leads to a shut-down of the turbine.
