Safety block

The newMT fuze M907 does not utilize an arming sleeve or a safety block as stated above for other models (Ref 51a, p 4-70)... 

The arming vane may drive a gear train which, after a definite interval, removes safety blocks or aligns the detonator with the next element in the explosive train. Standard arming vanes have blade pitches of 30°, 60°or 90°, but there are also "special" vane assemblies with different blade pitches (Ref 51a, p 5-38)...

Blocks and Stops During maintenance and setup activities, the ram on a press could fall and cause injury. It is good practice to insert a die block or safety block to prop the press open (Figure 13-17). Some presses have an attached rack to store the die block for normal operations. The rack has a switch or interlock that de-energizes the machine when the die block is not in the rack. 

All dies should be stamped with the tonnage and stroke requirements or be otherwise recorded and readily available to the die setter. The employer is to provide and enforce the use of safety blocks whenever dies are being adjusted or repaired in the press. Brushes, swabs, or other tools must be provided for lubrication, so that employees cannot reach into the point of operation. 

The ANSI A10.14—1991 American National Standard for Construction and Demolition Operations—Requirements for Safety Belts, Harnesses, Lanyards and Lifelines for Construction and Demolition Use, states that the anchor point of a lanyard or deceleration device should, if possible, be located above the wearer s belt or harness attachment. ANSI A10.14 also states that a suitable anchorage point is one which is located as high as possible to prevent contact with an obstruction below should the worker fall. Most manufacturers also warn in the user s handbook that the safety block/retractable lifeline must be positioned above the D-ring (above the work space of the intended user) and OSHA recommends that fall arrest and restraint equipment be used in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions.

The safety block is not really a part of the unit because the action of the safety positioning depends on the system considered. Certain systems have a safety state which must immediately be reached in case of fault. Others require a special procedure prior to the complete stop, and... 

The application software Is made of a permanently Iterative structure. One of the four emitters Is activated every time. An Internal variable In the loop Indicates the transmission In process. The Implemented solution of the signature analysis chosen consists In the analysis of line DO of the microprocessor at each run through the loop. Thus 9 the device Is characterized by four different signatures since there Is a signature checking every millisecond. The self-monltorlng unlt and more precisely the safety blocks has been designed so that an error can be detected In 1.5 ms. This detection time Is actually adjustable and depends on the application chosen. 

When the safety program is generated, the software automatically performs safety checks and incorporates additional safety blocks for fault detection and fault reaction. Therefore, the detection of failures and faults is assured, as well as the triggering of corresponding reactions intended to maintain or bring the F-system to a safe condition.
