The GEC reduction gear box

This gearbox comprises a train of gears for use with a fractional horse power electric motor. The geared motor is supplied for use in an office business machine. [Pg.43]

The moulded gears were developed to replace metal ones, a) to give quieter running - this is important in an office environment, and b) because they were cheaper. Machine-cut gears are very expensive, and moulded alternatives offered a cost saving of the order of 10 1. This is important in this cost-conscious market. [Pg.43]

More detail of the development history is given in Section 4.7, and there are repeated illustrative references to the office-copier gearbox throughout the text. [Pg.43]
