Gears reduction type

Perhaps the biggest problem with spring balances is that the linear motion of the spring is typically converted to some type of circular motion for reading the weight. Such gear reductions introduce friction, which decreases readability, pre-... [Pg.127]

This tower uses fans at the top of the tower to draw air in the base of the tower through the fill and out the fan discharge (Figures 9-103-105). In this type of mechanical draft tower the hot moist air discharges vertically (usually) to the atmosphere with such a velocity as to eliminate the possibility of recirculation of this air in at the base of the tower. This moist air is corrosive to the fan parts and therefore requires protection of coated plastic or special metal blades and sealed motors and reduction gears. [Pg.380]

Tail Fuzes M112A1, M113A1 and Ml 14Al differ from the M115 series in that they do not have reduction gears in the vane assembly and, therefore, can arm move quickly. They are designed for use with box fins and differ from each other only in length. Each type has the same diam (1.43-inches), but their wts are different (2.3, 2.5 2.8-lb, respectively)... [Pg.981]

Compounding.—For maximum efliciency, the peripheral speed of the wheel at the bucket pitch line should approach the value of one-half the steam speed. In simple impulse turbines, this leads either to very high rotative speeds or very large diameters. If the peripheral speed is reduced one-half, the efficiency decreases about one-third. Small capacity turbines of this type must therefore have ridiculously large wheels or else run very fast. Thus the original De Laval turbines used speeds of 10,000 to 30,000 r.p.m., with reduction gears. The present De Laval simple wheel uses peripheral speeds up to 1,300 ft. per second, implying 24,900 r.p.m. at 1 ft. diameter. [Pg.23]

The operating speed characteristics of the process equipment dictate the type of motor and control to be applied. Most drives operate at a speed lower than that of the motor, thus requiring some form of speed reduction. The gearing may be via direct-cpnnected coupled motor or a speed reducer may be used. Variable or adjustable speed performance must be definitely established as to speed range, degree of speed adjustment, and load requirements at all speeds. Constant-torque or constant-horsepower drives both require variable-speed or multispeed motors with suitable control equipment. [Pg.138]

While the EU has an absolute cap geared towards safeguarding emissions certainty, a US scheme may include price control mechanisms, which could lead to missing the emissions target in the short term. Also, through linking to this type of US system, the EU would cede some control to the US over allowance prices and emission reductions. [Pg.63]

Viscosity with stational flow. A cone-plate type rotating rheometer (Shimadzu, RM-1, equipped with a reduction gear, RDG-1) was employed. The rate of shear available ranged from 7.48x10" to 74.8/sec. The apparent viscosity at a given rate of shear was calculated from the rate of shear and the observed shear stress. Samples were dissolved in the buffer solution mentioned before at 2 or 4% concentration and measured at room temperature (22+l C). [Pg.215]

Major benefits of this type of application are as follows weight reduction augmentation of mechanical fit reduction of mechanical fit with subsequent reduction of hoop stress ease of machining of gear teeth of separate components as opposed to machining cluster cheaper capital outlay, for example, adhesive application assembly machine costs 100,000 compared to electron beam welding machine, which costs 500,000 easier replacement of gears. [Pg.235]

An all-electric machine has no hydraulic pumps. The toggles in the clamping unit are extended and retracted by a servomotor and a reduction drive gear is used to achieve the required forces. The clamps are much more stable since they have no hydraulic system to generate heat and the servomotors provide extremely accurate movement of the machine components. It is also much cleaner to operate than the other types of molding machines. All-electric machines are the machine of choice for most medical products. [Pg.407]

With AC or DC drives, a reducer is generally required to match the low speed of the screw to the high speed of the drive. The typical reduction ratio ranges from 15 1 to 20 1. The type of reducer most frequently used is the spur gear reducer, often in a... [Pg.59]
