Gear reduction unit

Propellers c/s top entry, open tank, including impeller, shaft, TEFC motor and gear reduction unit but excluding starter, wiring, taxes, and duties. FOB cost 6000 at 1.75 kW drive power, n = 0.42 for the range 0.15-1.75 and n = 0.52... 

All motors, contactors, and the mechanical overload torque limit on geared reduction units fitted to a conveyor drive unit, incorporate integral switch gear, in order that mechanical stoppage is monitored by visual or audible alarms. Low level switches also monitor sudden level drops, giving adequate warning to the operator to enable corrective procedures to be implemented. 

Generally requires slower speeds and hence greater gear reduction than propeller, higher power per unit volume. 

A reduction unit with shafting in a vertical position has a pump to lubricate any bearings and any gears not touching the oil in the reservoir. This pump supplies the proper lubricant under pressure to the moving parts throughout the equipment. See Figure 16.8.

Power transmission is as a rule effected by belt drive, at first this was with fiat belts and later with V-belts. A drive version using a direct-coupled electric motor with intermediate reduction gear was offered as an option as far back as the 1920s. (Fig. 42). Mobile extrusion units with an independent power supply from a diesel generating set were developed from 1950 for use in the Third World. 

An all-electric machine has no hydraulic pumps. The toggles in the clamping unit are extended and retracted by a servomotor and a reduction drive gear is used to achieve the required forces. The clamps are much more stable since they have no hydraulic system to generate heat and the servomotors provide extremely accurate movement of the machine components. It is also much cleaner to operate than the other types of molding machines. All-electric machines are the machine of choice for most medical products. 

Some twin -rotor hammer crushers are equ ipped with rotors directly driven through reduction gear units.

Actuation of the control rod is performed by the drive uiit (Fig, 95). The unit consists of a housing that contains the worm and worm wheel drive and the drive pinion and rack. The lower end of the rack is secured to the upper carriage top plate. Lubrication for the bearings and gear is contained within the housing by a series of oil seals. Power is supplied to the worm drive by an electric motor and reduction init.
