Receipt

Reception arrangements need to provide for checking the safety of items being submitted, separation of items to prevent cross-contamination, initial identification of submitted material, and the preparation of aU the requisite documentation. After items have been received and documented they wiU need to be transferred to an appropriate storage area, whether this be for trace analysis, biohazard, explosive, flammable, toxic, or bulk debris. It is advisable to have pre-planned quarantine storage for anything whose characteristics or provenance cannot be guaranteed.

Attributed to C. N. Reilley (1925-1981) on receipt of the 1965 Fisher Award in Analytical Chemistry. ReiUey, who was a professor of chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel HiU, was one of the most influential analytical chemists of the last half of the twentieth century. 

The EPA publishes Series Methods that describe the exact procedures to be followed with respect to sample receipt and handling, analytical methods, data reporting, and document control. A variation on the transit time method is the frequency-difference or sing-around method. In this technique, pulses are transmitted between two pairs of diagonally mounted transducers. The receipt of a pulse is used to trigger the next pulse. Alternatively this can be done using one pair of transducers where each acts alternately as transmitter and receiver. Specifications for gas turbine fuels prescribe test limits that must be met by the refiner who manufactures fuel however, it is customary for fuel users to define quality control limits for fuel at the point of delivery or of custody transfer. These limits must be met by third parties who distribute and handle fuels on or near the airport. Tests on receipt at airport depots include appearance, distfllation, flash point (or vapor pressure), density, freezing point, smoke point, corrosion, existing gum, water reaction, and water separation. Tests on delivery to the aircraft include appearance, particulates, membrane color, free water, and electrical conductivity. 

Heat-transfer aspects and performance were studied and reported on by Depew and Farbar (ASME Pap. 62-HT-14, September 1962). Heat-transfer coefficient characteristics are similar to those shown in Sec. 11 for the indirectly heated fluid bed. Another frequent application on plastics is a sm, rather incidental but necessary amount of drying required for plastic pellets and powders on receipt when shipped in bulk to the users. Pneumatic conveyors modifiea for heat transfer can handle this readily. 

Receipts of tank-car qiiantities or larger are usually checked for gravity, appearance, and flash point to confirm product identification and absence of contamination.

Quality control is also the term used as the name of a department. In most cases Quality Control Departments perform inspection and test activities and the name derives from the authority that such departments have been given. They sort good products from bad products and authorize the release of the good products. It is also common to find that Quality Control Departments perform supplier control activities, which are called Supplier Quality Assurance or Vendor Control. In this respect they are authorized to release products from suppliers into the organization either from the supplier s premises or on receipt in the organization.

It is a fact of life that people don t give a high priority to installing amendments to documents in their possession.
