I have not worn masks out in public because of the stigma. If I m at a concert or some other public event, I sit with a handkerchief or a scarf over my nose. I ll wear a mask in the car sometimes, and I have an oxygen tank in the car. 

The almost simultaneous discovery of vinblastine (1) by Noble et al. (57) and by Svoboda and co-workers (58) is one of the the most publicized events in alkaloid chemistry. Since its initial discovery, vinblastine (1) has been reisolated from C. roseus several times (47 9,57-60,) and it has also obtained from C. ovalis (32), C. longifolius (33), and C. trichophyllus (60). The large-scale separation of vinblastine (1) and vincristine (2) from C. roseus received attention from pharmaceutical industries, and several procedures for the separation of these alkaloids have been reported in the patent literature (61-71).

It does not take a nationally publicized event to seriously impact a health care system even a local apartment fire can cause a regional hospital system to exceed its surge capacity. A bum center s capacity is determined by available burn beds, burn surgeons, burn nurses, support staff, operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and related resources it is a dynamic number. Surge capacity is the ability to handle up to 50% more than the normal maximum burn patient census when there is an emergency.

The modem clinical trial (see section at end of Glossary) is an example of medical research. The two watershed events for the required ethics and structured ethical directives were the Nuremberg Code in response to Nazi experiments and the Helsinki Declaration on Human Rights (1964). These well-publicized events laid out the basic ethical principles for medical researchers to follow. Yet these principles were violated in several other reference cases and these in turn gave rise to the modem US regulations.

A bottleneck is a narrowing of the evacuation route, which causes a decrease of the evacuation velocity and may cause a congestion. Examples of bottlenecks are doors, stairs, aisles. With respect to the self-rescue model, where self-rescue of outdoor situations is considered, focus is on crowded locations, such as railway stations or public events. Within a quantitative risk analysis the location of the bottleneck is determined and (a part of) the population grid is assigned to be captured inside an area in front of a bottleneck, which means that the persons inside this (part of the) population grid, need to escape through the bottleneck, before being able to continue their escape (see Fig. 5). 

Sometimes native items of dress were adopted, such as the kilt in Scotland and the hunting shirt in America. Combat uniforms worn in the nineteenth century were loose and simple but for peacetime formal and ceremonial occasions, such as military parades and public events, dress imiforms became tightly fitted, colorful, and ornately decorated. Officers tended to come from the aristocrat class, and they could afford and usually wore better-quality uniforms. In some militaries, officers purchased and issued clothing to their own soldiers, who were not paid much. 

Work-related disasters have constituted some of the most harmful peacetime events resulting from human activity during the last 30 years. They are public events, in that they go beyond the confines of the workplace and cause death and injury to members of the wider community.
