One must consider the reviewer s style and preferred method of communication. Some reviewers prefer requests to go through the project Manager or CSO. One reviewer might be very responsive to e-mail, whereas another might prefer a telephone call. The contacts during an NDA review can be numerous - the exact number will vary with the application and the reviewing division. The purpose of contacts should not only be to track or monitor, but whenever possible to assist the reviewer in resolving quickly minor issues that can sometimes cause the reviewer to slow or even halt a review.

It is important to reiterate that the benefits orvIPs cannot be realized by just executing good engineering. We have developed a rapid and systematic process for isolation and identification of biologically active components from natural products. The process reduces time and cost through application of advanced chromatographic instrumentation. It generates important activity and chemical information and also provides advanced active fraction(s) to accelerate isolation studies. As a result, lead prioritization, project management, and the cycle time of natural product lead discovery have been significantly improved. 

The client/server model often allows easier integration with other network applications (eg, finance, project management, or human resources) which typically operate in the environment of the server component of the client/server system. Client/server can be gradually introduced in an existing minicomputer environment, often with litde adverse incremental impact in terms of retraining and additional cost.

Unfortunately, it is this writer s opinion that, considering the voluminous publications on chemometrics applications, the number of actual effective process analytical chemometrics applications in the field is much less than expected. Part of this is due to the overselling of chemometrics during its boom period, when personal computers (PCs) made these tools available to anyone who could purchase the software, even those who did not understand the methods. This resulted in misuse, failed applications, and a bad taste with many project managers (who tend to have long memories...). Part of the problem might also be due to the lack of adequate software tools to develop and safely implement chemometric models in a process analytical environment. Finally, some of the shortfall might simply be due to lack of qualified resources to develop and maintain chemometrics-based analytical methods in the field. 

The planning and preparation of either a new product or investigational product application requires a multidisciplinary approach. Most companies developing new products utilize formal project management systems to facilitate the collaboration between the technical disciplines, which may include personnel from research and development, manufacturing, formulation development, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and other disciplines, as required. In addition to planning for the required elements, most FDA review divisions have specific preferences on how data should be analyzed and presented. In the same dictionary, innovation is defined as the introduction of novelties the alteration of what is established and something newly introduced a novel practice or method . We can re-interpret this for the industrial environment as the introduction of new products, application processes or services to the market based on prior knowledge . Thus, innovation in R D is the generation of new ideas, which can then be used to produce these new products, processes and services. It should be obvious that this is an activity that does respond directly to planning. Certainly, at the development end of the innovation chain, rigorous planning is a prerequisite and this is covered in Section D on Project Management.
