Do thank another professional who has accepted your referral, because showing your appreciation will help develop your professional network. Developing a professional network helps counselors and therapists provide the best care possible to clients. Networks not only work to improve the treatment outcomes of clients, but also can increase the knowledge of therapists and counselors as well as provide for professional support to avoid burnout and poor decisions. Even when the path is unknown, there may be many clues about what may help. Novel problems may have some similarities to other, more well-known problems for which empirically validated interventions have been tested and developed. In such cases, those validated strategies may be modified to treat the problem at hand. In some instances, you may not have to reinvent the wheel so much as adjust it so it fits a different cart.
