Production department

In-plant controls are perhaps the best approach to eliminate waste generation and pollution problems, and many times good payback exists on recovery of products lost because of poor process controls. If the production department is responsible for the generation and in-plant control of wastes, this will help ensure that initial standards for water use and process loss are reasonable and that they are maintained (33). [Pg.92]

The division of labor between operations and maintenance is shown in Figure 21-4. It is the primary responsibility of the production department to establish and regulate basic operating conditions, and it is the primary responsibility of the maintenance department to improve defects in design. The other tasks are shared between the two departments. [Pg.726]

In recent times the inspection and test activities have been transferred into the production departments of organizations, sometimes retaining the labels and sometimes reverting to the inspection and test labels. [Pg.33]

The problem was an operational difficulty concerning the production department. Two root causes were identified based on the investigation. [Pg.299]

Additionally, because most factories do not operate steady-state processes, the efforts to match steam output to variable production department steam demands may further tax the boiler plant s generation capacity and manpower resources. [Pg.69]

As shown in Figure 2.12, the specification/conlidence interval ratio SI/CI is crucial to interpretation While SI/CI > 4 allows for distinctions, with Sl/Cl = 1 doubts will always remain. SI/CI = 4 is the minimum one should strive for when setting up specifications (provided one is free to choose) or when selecting the analytical method, because otherwise the production department will have to work under close to zero tolerance conditions as... [Pg.112]

The Production Department was not amused, because lower values had been expected. Quality Control was blamed for using an insensitive, unse-lective, and imprecise test, and thereby unnecessarily frightening top management. This outcome had been anticipated, and a better method, namely polarography, was already being set up. The same samples were run, this time in duplicate, with much the same results. A relative confidence interval of 25% was assumed. Because of increased specificity, there were now less doubts as to the amounts of this particular heavy metal that were actually present. To rule out artifacts, the four samples were sent to outside laboratories to do repeat tests with different methods X-ray fluorescence (XRFi °) and inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP). The confidence limits were determined to be 10% resp. 3%. Figure 4.23 summarizes the results. Because each method has its own specificity pattern, and is subject to intrinsic artifacts, a direct statistical comparison cannot be performed without first correcting the apparent concentrations in order to obtain presumably true... [Pg.229]

As an example of what should be included in the scope, suppose the manager of the product department sends you the following message We are considering building a plant to produce 60,000 tons per year of chlorine from the brine deposits near Pentwater, Mich. Would you please determine the cost of such a facility. Does this define the scope No Definitely not. [Pg.58]

The controlled operation pressure during the main drying is pc mbar -0 %, +10 % ). Tsh = -10 °C. With these data Tice has been -29.5 °C (standard deviation 0.38 °C) in the pilot plant. The production department must check the function Tlce = f (pc) for the production plant, and modify pc if necessary to achieve T-Kt = -29.5 °C(standard deviation < 0.4 °C)... [Pg.260]

Marx therefore develops a macroeconomic approach to establishing the conditions under which the economic system can reproduce itself one in which individual commodities are both produced and sold in the market place. To achieve this task, Marx collects industrial activities into two great departments of production. Department 1 produces means of production, capital goods that replace the constant capital (C,) used up in production. Department 2 produces consumption goods that take the form of variable capital (V ,) consumed by workers, and are also consumed by capitalists out of the surplus value (St) extracted from the production process. As a starting point for this analysis, Marx assumes that capitalists consume all of their surplus value. Hence, the system does not grow, since none of the surplus is set aside for capital expansion. All available resources are devoted to either consumption or the renewal of constant capital. This is the case of simple reproduction. [Pg.8]

Results of Dulog, Kern et ah, and a few others (27, 31) are summarized in Table I. From the ra values, toward the unsubstituted styrene-peroxy radical, the most reactive styrene—p-methoxystyrene—is three times as reactive as the least reactive, m-nitrostyrene. Thus, the best electron donor shows the highest reactivity (lowest enthalpy of activation) toward the electron-accepting styrene-peroxy radical. The deviations from unity of the rarb products measure the effects of substitution on the selectivity of the peroxy radicals. These products depart more from unity with increasing differences in the electron-donating and accepting properties of the nuclear substituents. The same trends appear within the other styrene combinations. [Pg.53]

A handbook of practical statistics would not be complete without at least a mention of evolutionary operation (EVOP). Although strictly speaking evolutionary operation is a method for operating plant processes, and perhaps less applicable to chemical research, a research worker may never know when he will be called upon to help the production department out of a tight spot. [Pg.35]

Installations for the recovery of solvent usually consist of main and ancillary sections. The main installation comprises equipment for the recovery of the solvent which escapes from the powder on predrying. The ancillary installation recovers solvent from various production departments. Solvent recovery ducting is installed in rooms containing high solvent concentration. This improves the working conditions by removing ether-alcohol vapours from the atmosphere. [Pg.600]
