Although SciFinder and SciFinder Scholar are very user friendly and are great software products, the user may not realize that the searches are not retrieving all the information stored in the 200 databases at STN. To illustrate that other STN databases contain pertinent information, we present in Table 1 the results of an STN search we did about 5 years ago. We searched for common terms obviously relevant to our audience, such as computational chemistry, molecular orbital, and force fields. These terms are listed across the columns of the table. In most of the searches we qualified the search inquiry so that only hits relevant to computational chemistry would be retrieved. The table shows clearly that the CAPlus file had a great many hits, as expected. However, it is also obvious that most of the other STN databases also contain pertinent hits. We present these results just to illustrate the sort of information that is accessible with the full-blown STN search tools. [Pg.337]

In order for such an extensive project to remain manageable, certain requirements were necessary. Initially the data were confined to TPs, TSs, TPEs, and casting plastics. To be included in this group were the TSEs, reinforced plastics, foams, semifinished products, and others. Polymat completed its initial work in 1989. New plastics products on the market and updated additional information on existing products are continually added. Data no longer available are still accessible to the user in a memory file. [Pg.414]

In what is being called the most far-reaching overhaul of European Union environmental policy ever, the European Commission released a draft policy proposal on May 7 that, if enacted, would require virtually all manufacturers of chemicals to provide risk assessments and other information regarding products they sell or ship into the EU. Chemicals would also have to be registered with the EC and many downstream users of products that contain chemical entities would have to file paperwork as well. The Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, or REACH, proposal would apply to approximately 30,000 new and existing chemicals, and test data would have to be developed on some 5000 specific chemical entities, many of which have been commonly used for decades. EUROPEAN COMMISSION... [Pg.40]

A fundamental objective of a computer system applied to automate a pharmaceutical GMP operation is to ensure the quality attributes of the drug product are upheld throughout the manufacturing process. It is therefore important that quality-critical parameters are determined and approved early in the validation life cycle. The exercise should be undertaken to a written procedure with base information from the master product/production record file examined and quality-critical parameter values and limits documented and approved for the process and its operation. In addition, the process and instrument diagrams (P IDs) should be reviewed to confirm the measurement and control components that have a direct impact on the quality-critical parameters and data. This exercise should be carried out by an assessment team made up of user representatives with detailed knowledge of both the computer system application and process, and with responsibility for product quality, system operational use, maintenance, and project implementation. This exercise may be conducted as part of an initial hazard and operability study (HAZOP) and needs to confirm the quality-related critical parameters for use in (or referenced by) the computer control system URS. [Pg.578]

This web site also contains an interactive powder pattern calculator that allows the user to change the input and variables for a powder pattern calculation. This book was typeset using UTj X with the standard computer modern typeface. The LT X file and associated postscript plots were generated with a C++ program written by M. M. J. Treacy. We wish to acknowledge the assistance and collaboration of the members of the IZA Structure Commission for proofreading the manuscript and providing additional information. We are indebted to our employers (Arizona State University, and Air Products Chemicals, Inc.) for support of this project, and to our wives Laura and Carol for their patience and support. [Pg.2]

No person in any state may distribute or sell to any person any pesticide that is not registered with the EPA. Each applicant seeking the registration must file a petition describing the product and the research that has been done on it to prove its efficacy as a pesticide and to provide information on its safety. A copy of the label, i.e., the instruction to the user, must also be included in the petition (Figure 3.1 and 3.2). [Pg.18]

Step 2. The MRC, the Product Manager, the Director of Marketing of the applicable Business Unit, and the Production Manager, as appKcable, shall confer and determine whether the business plans justify the time and expense of filing an LVE or LoREX application, and complying with any applicable restriction or requirement. If they do not, no manufacture or importation of the substance may be undertaken without compliance with the PMN rules. (Note that because LVE and LoREX applications use the PMN form the effort and expense of gathering information for any of these is the same, while there are no user fees applicable to LVEs and LoREX applications.)... [Pg.731]

The manufacturer should have drawn up a file with technical information on the product, but this is not made public. Therefore it is often difficult for the pharmacist to get the information needed for instmction and counselling of patients or users. The manufacturer has to provide instmctions on use of his product, but these are not always clear. Besides, specific knowledge may be required to make... [Pg.825]

A useful aspect of many software products is the ability to share information among programs. In this section, we will illustrate how Mathcad can exchange information with other software, focusing on Microsoft Excel and Word. While Microsoft Office is not designed as a mathematical tool, it is used commonly to write reports. The user may receive information in Word and want to transfer it into Mathcad or vice versa. Please note that for Mathcad 14, the user will need to save Excel files in Excel 2003 (.xls). Mathcad 15 supports the new Excel file format (.xlsx). [Pg.176]

As defined by the U.S. Patent Office, a patent is the grant of a property right to the inventor and it may be for a design, a new or improved process, machine, or even for a plant. While there are very specific reasons to search patents, and to search carefully if there is interest in filing a patent, valuable information may be found in patents while doing research or trying to understand a product or process. Patent research is much easier now that there are options to search at no cost in relatively user-friendly Web sites. [Pg.4]

A user-friendly interface called USERBKW was developed which reduced the skill and time required to prepare the input file necessary to describe a problem for the BKW code. Detonation product data files include thermodynamic function coefficients, heat of formation, and co-volumes. A data file of explosives and additives composition, crystal density, and heat of formation is the source of the information required by USERBKW. [Pg.453]
