Procurement sourcing

The purification of inorganic chemicals with activated carbon is not common practice. Usually it is more practical to procure source materials that do not require such purification. For the most part, applications in this field are limited to the treatment of waste materials containing impurities that are difficult to separate by other methods. Carbon performs a dual task of recovering a product and at the same time eliminating a disposal problem. [Pg.136]

Secondary and Micronutrients in Fertilizers The great majority of farm fertilizers are produced, marketed, and appHed with regard only to the primary plant nutrient content. The natural supply of secondary and micronutrients in the majority of soils is usually sufficient for optimum growth of most principal crops. There are, however, many identified geographical areas and crop—soil combinations for which soil appHcation of secondary and/or micronutrient sources is beneficial or even essential. The fertilizer industry accepts the responsibiHty for providing these secondary and micronutrients, most often as an additive or adjunct to primary nutrient fertilizers. However, the source chemicals used to provide the secondary and micronutrient elements are usually procured from outside the fertilizer industry, for example from mineral processors. The responsibiHties of the fertilizer producer include procurement of an acceptable source material and incorporation in a manner that does not decrease the chemical or physical acceptabiHty of the fertilizer product and provides uniform appHcation of the added elements on the field. [Pg.241]

There are several possible reasons why a scientific study of an art work may be desirable. An obvious one is in cases where the authenticity of an object is doubted on styHstic grounds, but no unanimous opinion exists. The scientist can identify the materials, analy2e the chemical composition, and then investigate whether these correspond to what has been found in comparable objects of unquestioned provenance. If the sources for the materials can be characterized, eg, through trace element composition or stmcture, it may be possible to determine whether the sources involved in the procurement of the materials for comparable objects with known provenance are the same. Comparative examination of the technological processes involved in the manufacture allows for conclusions as to whether the object was made using techniques actually available to the people who supposedly created it. Additionally, dating techniques may lead to the estabUshment of the date of manufacture. [Pg.416]

Borax, another fluxing material, is a mineral (composed of hydrated borate of sodium), which has also been known since antiquity. There seems to be no evidence however that it was used in the past as a flux it served mainly as a mordant, for dyeing textiles. Until the eighteenth century borax was apparently procured only from a lake in Tibet, whence it was exported to the Near East and Europe. Sources of borax in Asia Minor and in Tuscany, Italy, were discovered only in much later times. [Pg.142]

The master planning module coordinates procurement, production and distribution on a midterm level. Its major decision support is about sourcing which product is produced at which location and when. Thus, in this module the master production schedule is fixed. However, it is important to anticipate the key characteristics of the lower (short-term) planning levels within this module, because otherwise inconsistent plans (for procurement, production and distribution) will result on the lower planning level. [Pg.241]

In any potential applications, the cheaper enantiomer [usually (.S ), due to its procurement from natural sources] may therefore be employed. [Pg.263]

The supply side of the value chain has been subject to research since the middle of the 20th century. The research field can be structured into logistics management, production management, procurement and sourcing, as well as supply chain management. [Pg.41]

Procurement covers all company and/or market-oriented activities that have the purpose to make objects available to the company that are required but not produced (Large 2000, p. 2). Other terms found in the context of procurement are strategic sourcing, purchasing, supply management and/or supplier relationship management. [Pg.44]

There is growing concern over the potential risks to human health and the environment arising from leather goods. Dye manufacturers and tanneries are concerned about effluent, air pollution, containers and packaging [56]. In the light of the relatively important contribution to leather dyeing of azo dyes that can yield hazardous arylamines on reduction, careful guidance on the selection of dyes for leather is essential, with emphasis on procurement from reliable sources and the utilisation of liquid formulations to minimise... [Pg.28]

Because of the potential for extensive or catastrophic damage that could result from a malevolent act, additional equipment sources should be identified for the acquisition and installation of equipment and repair parts in excess of normal usage. This should be based on the results of the specific scenarios and critical assets identified in the vulnerability assessment that could be destroyed. For example, numerous pumps, vats, and mixers, specifically designed for the chemical industry, could potentially be destroyed. A certain number of long-lead procurement equipment should be inventoried and the vendor information for such unique and critical equipment maintained. In addition, mutual aid agreements with other industries, and... [Pg.142]

A total of four Co and Fe based alloys were procured from a commercial source.
