Controlled conditions include in-process monitoring and in-process inspection and test. All controls need a verification stage and a feedback loop. You cannot control production processes without performing some kind of verification.

Product conformance is established to specified requirements by use of process monitoring and control methods. 

The sensor consists of a patented resonator which is designed to have one side make physical contact with the sample under test The shift in resonant frequency of the cavity, as well as the change in amplitude of reflection are a measure of the dielectric properties, e and e" of the sample. By measuring these two parameters and correlating them to process parameters, one is able to develop an algorithm which can be used for process monitoring.

In-process monitoring of critical processing steps and end-product testing of current production can provide documented evidence to show that the manufacturing process is in a state of control. Such validation documentation can be provided from the test parameter and data sources disclosed in the section on retrospective validation. 

Whether a control system comprises distinct instruments for nominal control functions and process monitoring, or an integrated control system, a nominal set of control function tests are necessary. The tests described encompass both controller capability and equipment performance. These tests may be completed during the FAT as part of a separate computer system validation.
