Primary Pressure Measurements

Pressure or vacuum is measured and indicated for several reasons  [Pg.315]

Liquid-filled gages should be used on reciprocating equipment where vibration or pulsation is expected. Gages should have pressure-relieving cases. [Pg.316]

Osmotic pressure measurements and the NMR spectra of dilute solutions of the aminoaldehyde (6) indicated that the primary species in solution was the dimeric enamine (7) (29). [Pg.58]

Restrictions or other causes of back-pressure in the discharge piping deflect the shaft in the opposite direction. Referring back to the illustration, the shaft would be deflected toward the front of the picture. If the discharge were vertical and in the downward direction, the primary radial measurement point would be at the top of the pump s bearing cap looking downward. [Pg.725]

It is important for the nurse to note the presence of suicidal thoughts. The nurse accurately documents in the patient s record and reports to the primary health care provider any statements concerning suicide and the ability of the patient to carry out any suicide intentions. The nurse performs a physical assessment, which includes obtaining blood pressure measurements on both arms with the patient in a sitting position, pulse, respiratory rate, and weight. [Pg.289]

Characterization of the cavitational phenomena and its effects in sonochemical reactors are generally described through mapping. Mapping of sonochemical reactor is a stepwise procedure where cavitational activity can be quantified by means of primary effect (temperature or pressure measurement at the time of bubble collapse) and/or secondary effect (quantification of chemical or physical effects in terms of measurable quantities after the bubble collapse) to identify the active and passive zones. [Pg.45]

For a strong primary shock wave, the reflected rarefaction wave propagates into water that has already been set in motion. Consequently, the rarefaction wave arrives earlier than predicted from the acoustic approximation, which ignores the particle velocity. Thus the pressure cutoff is not instantaneous. This effect typically gives a pulse shape shown by the solid line for Point A of Fig 33. The shallower the point at which pressure measurements are made, the sooner the primary shock pulse is truncated and the shorter its duration (see Fig 33, Point B). At shallow enough locations, the rarefaction wave interacts with the shock front and reduces the peak pressure (see Fig 33, Points C and D). The region in which the peak pressure is reduced is known as the anomalous region ... [Pg.100]

I. Spectroscopic Determinations. Gas-phase infrared spectra provide a useful adjunct to vapor pressure measurements in the identification of volatile materials. The cell illustrated in Fig. 9.15 allows the sample to be quantitatively returned to the vacuum line after the spectrum has been obtained, so the process is completely nondestructive. The primary problem with a gas cell is to obtain a vacuum-tight seal between the window material and the cell body this may be accomplished with Glyptal paint or with wax- If the latter is used, it is necessary to warm and cool the alkali halide windows slowly to avoid cracking them due to thermal stress. For this purpose an infrared lamp is handy. The most satisfactory method of attaching windows is O-rings because this allows the easy removal of the windows for cleaning and polishing. [Pg.98]

There are two elements in a head flow meter the primary element is the restriction in the line, and the secondary element is the differential pressure measuring device. Figure 1 shows the basic operating characteristics of a head flow meter. [Pg.91]

Manometers consisting of liquid columns of, commonly, mercury or a fluid such as silicone oil, have been used extensively in the past to measure gas mixtures in, for example, experimental, static investigations of the overall kinetics of gas-phase reactions. They continue to be used in many applications, including the establishment of primary pressure standards in several countries. [Pg.149]

When either the column is very high (columns more than 10 m high have been used in calibration work) or the external pressure, po, varies over a wide-pressure range, which occurs in stepwise calibration work, pb must be known not just at the ambient pressure but also as a function of pressure. Details of all the special precautions for accurate calibration work with U-tube manometers are given in the specialist literature. Here, the primary intention is not to give a detailed discussion of absolute-pressure calibration work but rather to give a survey of the different techniques used for pressure measurements. [Pg.47]

For volumetric measurements with DACs high precision can only be obtained using interferometric and video control, and the primary applications may be for thermal pressure measurements at constant volume. The techniques need still further development. [Pg.63]

Formation pressure data were obtained from repeat formation tester (RFT) or modular dynamic tester (MDT) measurements of numerous deep wells in the Central North Sea. These data were used as the primary pressure dataset as they are the most accurate pressure measurements possible down-hole. The MDT/RFT wireline tool takes a pressure reading within a permeable formation, by setting a seal at a precise depth determined by using an accompanying gamma ray tool for depth correlation. Drill stem test (DST), mudweight data and kick (influxes of pore fluids into the wellbore) information was also used where RFT or MDT data were not available or of very poor quality. A summary of the various approaches used to derive formation pressures is provided by Holm (1998). [Pg.292]

There are no measurements available for typical ocean situations, but it seems unlikely that slicks with film pressures significantly greater than 1 X 10" N m will be at all common on the surface of the open ocean. Firstly, the availability of organic material in these areas of relatively low primary production should be much reduced relative to coastal waters and, secondly, wind and wave conditions in the open sea are almost certainly too severe for the formation of visible slicks except under very calm and therefore unusual conditions. Goldacre (1949) made film pressure measurements on the surface of lake waters which are of special interest here as some of the findings, though obtained for inland waters, can be extrapolated to the oceanic situation. He found organic films (mainly protein and lipo-protein) on all of more than fifty natural bodies of water examined, with a few film pressure values in excess of 30 X 10 N m". Furthermore, at wind speeds as... [Pg.263]

ANN architecture consists of an input layer of nodes, an ontpnt layer, and, sometimes, one or more hidden layers between the two (figure). The input layer receives (analog, not digital) information from a set of primary transducers. For example, different temperature or pressure measurements, or size information, may represent the inpnt data. That data is fed to the ANN input layer. [Pg.207]
