A corresponding literature has emerged that surveys patients and physicians perceptions of DTCA, and how it has affected relationships between physicians and patients. These surveys are discussed in detail in, among others, Aikin (2003) and Calfee (2002). The most recent of these is that by Weissman et al. (2004), who also reference earlier Prevention magazine and FDA surveys. [Pg.289]

If the objective of all this advertising is for patients to push their doctor to prescribe a certain drug, the effort has apparently had some success. A survey of 1,222 Americans by Prevention magazine in June 2000 found that 32 percent of consumers who saw a DTC ad—that s 54.2 million people— talked with their doctor about the medicine in the commercial. Some 26 percent then asked for a prescription for that medicine. And of those who asked, 71 percent walked away with a prescription. In the FDA surveys, about half said their doctor gave them a prescription that they requested after seeing an ad. [Pg.162]

Prevention Magazine once published a volume titled The Encyclopedia of Common Diseases, with a section devoted to cancer, and the chapters at the end of the section described several alternative treatments for cancer, including diet. These chapters included the Gerson Treatment, Insulin as per the Beale Treatment, Kre-biozen, the Drosnes—Lazenby Treatment, and the Koch Treatment. Not much is heard about some of these therapies today, though at the time many successes were reported, and intriguing hues for research laid out. [Pg.165]

It may be again added that attention was called to vitamin C deficiencies and cancer in The Complete Book of Vitamins, by J.I. Rodale et al., published in 1966, as were vitamin B deficiencies, and mention was made of the Gerson diet in the treatment of cancer, and the importance of the liver [Rodale et al., 1966, pp. 450-509]. An npdate to the reference is Prevention Magazine s Complete Book of Vitamins and Minerals, cited elsewhere.)... [Pg.269]

Extensive studies of chemical properties of transactinide elements, Rf, Db, and Sg have been performed with the Automated Rapid Chemistry Apparatus (ARCA), see summaries in Ref. [15, 44, 45]. To improve the speed and reduce cross contamination, the ARCA n was built, featuring two magazines of 20 miniaturized ion exchange columns [46]. With the large number of columns, cross contamination between samples can be prevented by using each column only once. By miniaturizing the columns, the elution... [Pg.130]
