Preparatory Work

It need not be pointed out that in this example, as for all trace analyses, extremely pure chemicals must be used. Acetic acid is available in extremely pure form (Puranal, Suprapur). In chloride trace analysis special care must be given to the electrolyte contact between reference element and sample solution, since most reference half cells are filled with chloride-containing solutions. We will use a 0.1 M KQ solution as primary electrolyte for our Ag/AgCl reference electrode, and a KNO3 saturated 90% acetic acid solution for an outer electrolyte, which is to be renewed daily. In this way we have also made all provisions necessary for a constant liquid junction potential (see Sect. 2.3)  [Pg.156]

We wish to start out with 10 ml of sample solution and dilute it with 90 ml of 100% acetic acid. We will also want to adjust the concentration of the AgNOs solution, so that a sample solution chloride content of 1 ppm requires exactly one burette full of this solution (= 1.000 ml). This requires a 2.82 X 10 M silver nitrate solution. Due to the difficulties in storing such dilute silver ion solutions, freshly prepared solutions should be employed, or preferably the more elegant method of cou-lometric reagent production (details in [241]) should be used. [Pg.157]

Fireside cleaning is essentially a manual labor job that requires brushing, vacuuming, and similar work practices. Close attention to preparatory work, such as installing plastic sheeting to minimize the spread of... [Pg.656]

Development of an industrial monitoring application for IMS requires extensive preparatory work, as well as optimal operational conditions for IMS, i.e. the nature of the reagent gas, calibration curves, evaluation of interferents, assessment of reliability. Analysis of mixtures with four or fewer components may be possible, but extension to more complex mixtures should be considered only in special cases, and generally would be unrealistic. Use of preseparators, such as GC columns, is the only known technical approach... [Pg.416]

A natural extension of column chromatography is high-pressure liquid chromatography, which combines separation, detection, and quantitation (and isolation in the case of preparatory work). Perhaps the single... [Pg.341]

The Committee spent the first 6 months of its existence (the latter half of 1963) in completing its preparatory work. By 1 January 1964, the Committee was in a position to invite submissions (this is what they were called, and not applications ) on drugs intended for clinical trials or about to be released for the market. [Pg.463]

Lee attended for a short series of counselling appointments to do the preparatory work for a detoxification. His parents had become aware of the problem, and after initial distress they were keen to help him through his treatment With the counsellor s advice, Lee reduced his heroin use to the minimum which he needed to stop him withdrawing, and it was arranged that he had our standard detoxification regime of lofexidine and additional symptomatic medication. He had taken a week off work to do the detoxification, and daily home visits were undertaken. [Pg.63]

Where there is a change in vendor or a change in program type for technical or operational reasons, the specific requirements necessitating change will dictate what preparatory work needs to be performed. This may necessitate some form of on-line cleaning or repassivation prior to inhibitor changeover. [Pg.400]

Indomethacin has been determined without any preparatory work by Saito and Hara on 2% (w/w) (JJ-11 supported on Diasolid L and on 1.5% (w/w) SE-52 supported on high purity Chromosorb W(52). [Pg.232]

A certain limitation to the method is the fact that DNA or RNA probes against the genes involved have to be available for hybridisation. This implies that only rather well-known organisms can be studied, for which the gene sequences involved are known, or that the preparatory work to set up the method has to identify suitable sequences from related organisms or pathways. [Pg.195]

The Stockholm Convention plans are likely to be the core of the work on national action plans that began after SAICM was adopted in 2006. Preparatory work has been started in about 60 countries, with funding mainly from the Quick Start Program. The preconditions are, thus, significantly more favourable than those that prevailed after Agenda 21 in 1992. [Pg.201]

The only option of RC equipment management has been implemented so far providing for preparing of the taken-out-of-service NIB to protracted (10 - 15 years) waterborne storage on the berth of Atomflof . Gas cylinders must be chained securely to the wall or laboratory bench (see pp. 644-646 and Appendix C). There is some hazard of electrical shock or short circuit from exposed terminals. Check all electrical connections carefully before plugging into the 110-V ac line. Note also that CCI4 is used in a minor way as a solvent in the preparatory work. This is a potentially hazardous chemical (see p. 197, CCI4 hazards) and should be handled with care. [Pg.166]

According to some reports, Libya had decided in principle to join the CWC as early as 2001. It is also noteworthy that Libya had maintained contact with the OPCW and followed its decision-making on implementation issues since the very beginning of the preparatory work in 1993, which is very different from some other Arab countries, such as Egypt or Syria, that approached the CWC primarily in the context of the conflict with Israel. [Pg.42]

Without question, the major focus of the two-week formal session was the final negotiation and drafting of the Political Declaration and the Review Document. So the RevCon was not a particularly enlightening experience. Some of the above concerns are quite understandable coming from those capital-based officials and observers (including NGOs) who had not had the opportunity to be involved in the preparatory work for the RevCon, and who had become fully engaged only at the commencement of the formal two-week session. ... [Pg.60]

Although antler can be etched and inscribed, this is seldom done as so much preparatory work would be needed on the surfece. Antler cannot be softened or moulded and must be cut or carved into the required shape. [Pg.97]

The preparatory work involved in conducting a glassblowing class must be undertaken a few months before the beginning of the teaching course. [Pg.109]

The Jackson-Meisenheimer reaction is of considerable theoretical and practical significance for analytical and preparatory work in the laboratory and in industry. The latter refers to replacing halogen or alkoxy groups in nitroaro-matics by acting with bases and it received full attention in Vol. I (pp. 197,453, 461,467,484, 545, 547, 549, 559, 563, 571) and Vol. Ill (pp. 47,61). [Pg.413]

Sometimes searches lend themselves to recording on punched cards. Of course, details must be worked out well in advance. However, large-scale use of machines for searching involves considerable expense for preparatory work material to be searched later must first be analyzed and encoded. Some of the guiding principles are discussed by Casey and Perry (3, 40). [Pg.11]
