Community activities

To emphasize that the initiative came from the scientists and technical experts themselves and from those with a direct interest in furthering international collaboration, the founding fathers of COST opted for a flexible and pragmatic approach. CO.ST activities have in the past paved the way for community activities, and its flexibility allows COST actions to be used as a testing and exploratory field for emerging topics. 

The challenge is to communicate actively with the customer and continue to make sales after the first order. It is important that the farmer keeps in regular contact with the customers, and develops other incentives to ensure they keep ordering.

Besides the critical measures mentioned above, it has to be kept in mind that other community activities have counterproductive effects on air quality. The European Single Market has fostered growth of mobility, with side effects. The objective of the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T22) is to make traffic efficient and safe, but it has been shown that they bring about additional traffic with negative ecological consequences. 

Some nice people, in their desire to do good and gain acceptance, overextend themselves in social and community activities. To some of these individuals retirement offers an excuse to break away from many of these commitments.

Evidence is accumulating that DOM composition selects specific taxa (see Chapters 9 and 14). Models show that the relative input rates of labile and humic DOM can determine which guilds of bacteria dominate community metabolism (see Chapter 18). Because there may be multiple input sources, varying in magnitude and composition, each community represents a solution to a cacophony of selective pressures. Source heterogeneity in terms of DOM composition or timing probably contributes to greater active diversity, unless response is limited by other environmental factors (e.g., low temperature or low pH). From this perspective, ambient DOM concentration and composition are products of the interaction between input sources and community activity. This conception makes clear the limitations of attempts to model microbial activity in terms of static analyses of DOM abundance or composition. 

The DOM output of one system becomes an input to the next. Because the character of major inputs influences the composition and diversity of microbial communities, community activities may respond in a potentially predictable fashion along such a gradient. The complication is that downstream systems can differ in hydrologic, physical, and chemical properties, and may receive DOM inputs from varied sources. The new selective regime may obscure patterns of connectivity. 

Keep in mind that if you or I as therapists cannot seem to help some of our patients, the alternative answer is not drugs. The alternative could be another therapist or no therapy at all. No treatment at all is better than being subjected to toxic chemicals that cross the blood-brain barrier and interfere with higher human functions. With a clear brain and mind, people can take advantage of all the healing opportunities afforded by life, from support groups and workshops to community activities and religious worship.
