A report financed by Public Citizen, a group critical of nuclear power, lists dozens of instances of nuclear plant O ring failures from 1975. For example, faulty O rings at the LaSalle nuclear plant in Seneca, lU., were blamed for the failure of an automatic shutdown system and an emergency cooling system, the report said. [Pg.25]

For the overpower type transients, the Umiting failure mode is expected to be burst or pellet cladding mechanical interaction (PCMI). The maximum allowable powers listed in Table 2.8.1 are determined through the fuel rod thermal and mechanical analyses in Chap. 2, taking several conservatisms so as to prevent melting of the pellet centerline and keep the circumferential strain on the cladding... [Pg.364]

Specimens used in tests were sections of cables with PVC outer coating. PVC was plasticized with DOF softener. The materials considered were exposed to the radiation and thermal aging. The samples have been irradiated at room temperature by hard gamma rays with 10 rad/sec dose power. A number of samples had been heated for long different times at 90°C. Besides a special specimens were cut out from outer coating for test on tensile machine like "Instron". The total doses of irradiation, times of heating and elongations at break obtained with "Instron" are listed in Table 1. [Pg.244]

Wide range of viscosity ia commercial petroleum oils is illustrated by the representative types listed ia Table 3. Despite this range, the largest proportion of oils are ia the 25-75 mm /s at 40°C viscosity range. Oils ia this range combine generally adequate hydrodynamic load capacity with low power loss, low volatiUty, and satisfactory low temperature properties. [Pg.239]

Table 21-5 indicates screw-conveyor performance on the basis of material classifications as listed in Table 21-4 and defined in Table 21-3. Table 21-6 gives a wide range of capacities and power requirements for various sizes of screws handling 801 kg/m (50 lb/ fU) of material of average conveyabihty. Within reasonable limits, values from Tables 21-5 and 21-6 can be interpolated for preliminary estimates and designs. [Pg.1915]

For non-effectively grounded systems, having a GFF of more than 1.4, a higher level of insulation (BIL) will be essential for all equipment being used on the system to withstand a higher level of a one-minute power frequency voltage test as well as an impulse voltage withstand test if such levels (Lists I, II and III) are prescribed in the relevant standards. If not, then it may be assumed, that the prescribed test values take account of such an... [Pg.667]

The power frequency voJiage lest refers to indoor units. The outdoor eapaciior units must be subjected to a wet test as in lEC 60060-1.. 3 The choice between list I and list 2 will depend upon the extent of exposure of the units to the internal and external vollage surges and... [Pg.840]

First, the structure should explain the data. Apart from the energy or target function value returned by the refinement program, this check can be performed with some independent programs (e.g., AQUA/PROCHECK-NMR [90], MOLMOL [91]). The analysis of the deviations from the restraints used in calculating the structures is very useful in the process of assigning the NOE peaks and refining the restraint list. As indicators of the quality of the final structure they are less powerful, because violations have been checked and probably removed. A recent statistical survey of the quality of NMR structures found weak correlations between deviations from NMR restraints and other indicators of structure quality [88]. [Pg.271]

A similar problem arises with present cross-validated measures of fit [92], because they also are applied to the final clean list of restraints. Residual dipolar couplings offer an entirely different and, owing to their long-range nature, very powerful way of validating structures against experimental data [93]. Similar to cross-validation, a set of residual dipolar couplings can be excluded from the refinement, and the deviations from this set are evaluated in the refined structures. [Pg.271]

There are four current loops inside of every switching power supply. Each of these loops must be kept separate from one another. They are listed in order of their importance to a good PCB layout. [Pg.93]

Variable-frequency drive technology is constantly improving in step with the advances in power electronic device technology and with the associated microprocessor controls. The following list of desirable fea tures is offered ... [Pg.281]

Table 4.11 lists the Y values for some alcohol-water mixtures and for some other solvents. The Y value reflects primarily the ionization power of the solvent. It is largest for polar... [Pg.238]

There are a number of powerful synthetic reactions which join two trigonal carbons to form a CC single bond in a stereocontrolled way under proper reaction conditions. Included in this group are the aldol, Michael, Claisen rearrangement, ene and metalloallyl-carbonyl addition reactions. The corresponding transforms are powerfully stereosimplifying, especially when rendered enantioselective as well as diastereoselective by the use of chiral controller groups. Some examples are listed in Chart 20. [Pg.51]

One of the products of a nuclear power plant PSA is a list of plant responses to initiating events (accident starters) and the sequences of events that could follow. By evaluating the significance of the identified risk contributors, it is possible to identify the high-risk accident. sequences and take actions to mitigate them. [Pg.5]

Initiating events, in this study, initiate plant scram or setback. Other initiators, such as refueling discharge accidents, do not necessarily cause a reactor shutdown but may lead t< minor fuel damage and radioactive releases. The list of initiators for nuclear power plants has litf ance for HFBR because of size and design differences. A list of HFBR-specific initiators was developed from " st prepared with the HFBR staff, the FSAR, the plant design manual, the procedures manual, techn specifications, monthly operating reports, and the HFIR PRA (Johnson, 1988). [Pg.412]
