Poly functionalities

These may be produced from a great variety of poly-functional compounds to obtain satisfactory products, the reactants must be pure. A few examples follow. [Pg.1016]

DADC may be polymerised industrially with small amounts of other miscible Hquid monomers. Some acryflc ester monomers and maleic anhydride may accelerate polymerisation. Copolymerisation with methacrylates, diaHyl phthalates, triaHyl isocyanurate, maleates, maleimides, and unsaturated polyesters are among the examples in the early Hterature. Copolymers of DADC with poly-functional unsaturated esters give castings of high clarity for eyeglass lenses and other optical appHcations (20). [Pg.83]

Whilst solving some ecological problems of metals micro quantity determination in food products and water physicochemical and physical methods of analysis are employed. Standard mixture models (CO) are necessary for their implementation. The most interesting COs are the ones suitable for graduation and accuracy control in several analysis methods. Therefore the formation of poly functional COs is one of the most contemporary problems of modern analytical chemistry. The organic metal complexes are the most prospective class of CO-based initial substances where P-diketonates are the most appealing. [Pg.405]

M HCl at room temperature. Little, if any, use of these groups has been made by the general synthetic community, but the wide range of selectivities observed in their acidic hydrolysis should render them useful for the selective protection of poly functional molecules. [Pg.35]

PUR are a broad class of highly cross-linked plastics prepared by multiple additions of poly-functional hydroxyl or amino compounds. Typical reactants are polyisocyanates [toluene diisocyanate (TDI)] and polyhydroxyl molecules such as polyols, glycols, polyesters, and polyethers. The cyanate group can also combine with water this reaction is the basis for hardening of the one-part foam formulations. [Pg.499]

Polyurethanes are thermoset polymers formed from di-isocyanates and poly functional compounds containing numerous hydroxy-groups. Typically the starting materials are themselves polymeric, but comprise relatively few monomer units in the molecule. Low relative molar mass species of this kind are known generally as oligomers. Typical oligomers for the preparation of polyurethanes are polyesters and poly ethers. These are usually prepared to include a small proportion of monomeric trifunctional hydroxy compounds, such as trimethylolpropane, in the backbone, so that they contain pendant hydroxyls which act as the sites of crosslinking. A number of different diisocyanates are used commercially typical examples are shown in Table 1.2. [Pg.16]

I 10. The answer is a. (Hardman, p 1302J Cyclophosphamide is classified as a poly functional alkylating drug that transfers its alkyl groups to cellular components. The cytotoxic effect of this agent is directly associated with the alkylation of components of DNA. Methotrexate and 5-FU are classified as anti metabolites that block intermediary metabolism to inhibit cell proliferation. Tamoxifen is an antiestrogen compound. Doxorubicin is classified as an antibiotic chemotherapeutic agent. [Pg.95]

Functionalized organozinc halides are best prepared by direct insertion of zinc dust into alkyl iodides. The insertion reaction is usually performed by addition of a concentrated solution (approx. 3 M) of the alkyl iodide in THF to a suspension of zinc dust activated with a few mol% of 1,2-dibromoethane and MeaSiCl [7]. Primary alkyl iodides react at 40 °C under these conditions, whereas secondary alkyl iodides undergo the zinc insertion process even at room temperature, while allylic bromides and benzylic bromides react under still milder conditions (0 °C to 10 °C). The amount of Wurtz homocoupling products is usually limited, but increases with increased electron density in benzylic or allylic moieties [45]. A range of poly-functional organozinc compounds, such as 69-72, can be prepared under these conditions (Scheme 2.23) [41]. [Pg.56]

Molecules suitable for the formation of macromolecules must be at least bifunctional with respect to the desired polymerization they are termed monomers. Linear macromolecules result from the coupling of bifunctional molecules with each other or with other bifunctional molecules in contrast, branched or crosslinked polymers are formed when tri- or poly-functional compounds are involved. [Pg.3]

In principle, bifunctional aldehydes should be able to engage in twofold enzymatic aldol additions to both of their acceptor carbonyls in a fashion to be classified as a tandem reaction, that is, without the need for isolation of intermediates. Depending on the specificity of the enzyme used and on the functionalization in the starting material, the isomeric constitution as well as the absolute and relative stereochemistry should be deliberately addressable. Therefore, we engaged in a program to evaluate the scope and the Hmitations of such two-directional chain elongation processes for the construction of extended poly functional molecules [36]. [Pg.363]

Alkyd. Alkyd resins are the reaction product of a poly functional alcohol and a polyfunctional acid. When the resin is combined with a filler, catalyst, pigment, and release agent the resultant product is a granular or putty or rope-type molding compound. Fillers used may be fine mineral, glass, mineral and nylon—depending on the end product desired. [Pg.29]

Aliphatic Glycidyl Ethers. Aliphatic epoxy resins have been synthesized by glycidylation of difunclional or poly functional polyols such as a 1.4-butanediul. 2.2-dimethyl-1.3-propanediol (neopentyl glycol), polypropylene glycols, glycerol, irimethylolpropane. and pentaerythritol. [Pg.578]

The use of a reactive di- or poly-functional comonomer (non-antioxidant) which can co-graft with a monofunctional polymerisable antioxidant on polymers can improve the grafting efficiency from as low as 10-40% to an excess of 80-90%. This strategy, however, presents immense challenges due to the presence of more than one polymerisable group in the comonomer which could lead to additional undesirable (competing) side reactions com-... [Pg.144]

More recently, Porta and co-workers [6] applied similar considerations of the polar effects to a new one-pot multicomponent process for the addition of nucleophilic radicals to aldimines, generated in situ in the presence of Ti(IV). In analogy with the Minisci reaction, Ti(IV), which acts as a Lewis acid, coordinates the nitrogen of the imine, strongly increasing the electron-deficient character of the carbon in the a-posilion and thus the reactivity of the imine toward nucleophilic radicals. This reaction, as well as the Minisci one, represents a useful route for the synthesis of a variety of poly-functionalized derivatives of chemical and biochemical relevance. [Pg.338]
