Static eliminating devices that ionize the atmosphere around the device are available. Static eliminators are divided into two main groups silent (corona) discharge eliminators, such as inductive eliminators, or high voltage eliminators which initiate an impact ionization of the air by applying strong electrostatic fields, and radioactive eliminators that provide a multitude of ions from independent ion sources (9).

Weighing. The filters are not desiccated prior to weighing, and are always handled with nonserrated tweezers. Since it is easy to build up static charges on the filter, a static eliminator is necessary. Workshop atmospheres where flammable solvents are used for spreading as in, say, material proofing processing, can be artificially humidi-fi. Where practicable specialised radioactive static eliminators or earthed metal combs near the charged material etc. can also be used. It is also a wise precaution to ensure adequate ventilation such as to keep the gas/air mixture well below the lower explosive limit of the flammable solvent concerned. 

There has been a rapid growth in use of isotopes in medical research, medical therapy, smoke detectors, static eliminators, sealed sources for a variety of purposes including weld checks, geophysical examinations, etc. Most of these wastes will be buried in low level waste disposal facilities.
