Zinc is also used extensively to galvanize other metals such as iron to prevent corrosion. Zinc oxide is a unique and very useful material for modern civilization. It is widely used in the manufacture of paints, rubber products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, floor coverings, plastics, printing inks, soap, storage batteries, textiles, electrical equipment, and other products. Lithopone, a mixture of zinc sulfide and barium sulfate, is an important pigment. 

As with acid-base and complexation titrations, redox titrations are not frequently used in modern analytical laboratories. Nevertheless, several important applications continue to find favor in environmental, pharmaceutical, and industrial laboratories. In this section we review the general application of redox titrimetry. We begin, however, with a brief discussion of selecting and characterizing redox titrants, and methods for controlling the analyte s oxidation state. 

The pharmaceutical reference substance system, accepted in USSR, did not meet to modern requirements. For creation of a modem system in Ukraine it was required to develop criteria to uncertainty of analytical phamiaceutical procedures. 

Control of metalloid content in natural objects, foodstuff and pharmaceuticals is an important task for modern analytical chemistry. Determination of elements such as Arsenic is necessary for evaluation of object toxicity, since their content in environment may exceed MCL (maximum contaminant level), posing hazard to human health. Elements such as Selenium in definite doses are healthy, but in greater quantities they produce toxic effect. 

To facilitate industry application of modern quality management techniques, including the implementation of quality systems approaches, to all aspects of pharmaceutical production and quality assurance. 

The need of modern science to achieve a sustainable future development has been shown in many circumstances in society. Finding strategies less harmful to the environment has been a quest for research in several areas, such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and food industries. With that purpose, the increase in research and development of more applications of xylan and its derivatives has shown the versatility of this biopolymer, thus helping the search for sustainable alternatives. 

With all the technology found in the modern hospital today, the lack of coordination between other parts of health care, the pharmaceutical industry, and the agencies is outdated. A network that connects these parts together will improve patient safety, improve care, speed the development of new treatments, and support new medical breakthroughs. 

Some of the compUcations Usted above could be flagged and, sometimes, remedied in a manual shake-flask experiment, but that is unlikely to be the case in automated shake-vial procedures, especially if performed in a 96-well plate setting. Nevertheless, the demands of modern pharmaceutical discovery operations emphasize high-throughput measurements, low compound consumphon... 

Major applications of modern TLC comprise various sample types biomedical, pharmaceutical, forensic, clinical, biological, environmental and industrial (product uniformity, impurity determination, surfactants, synthetic dyes) the technique is also frequently used in food science (some 10% of published papers) [446], Although polymer/additive analysis takes up a small share, it is apparent from deformulation schemes presented in Chapter 2 that (HP)TLC plays an appreciable role in industrial problem solving even though this is not reflected in a flood of scientific papers. TLC is not only useful for polymer additive extracts but in particular for direct separations based on dissolutions.

With one exception, all the chapters from the third edition of Modern Pharmaceutics that appear in the fourth edition have been revised and updated. Many chapters were extensively updated, and some, such as the first and last chapters, were extensively rewritten. Due to the illness of Dr. Robinson, the chapter on sustained and controlled release drug delivery systems was updated with the assistance of Gil Banker, with Dr. Robinson s approval. 

Although Modern Pharmaceutics continues to evolve, our basic goals remain those which we developed in the 1970s when we first delineated the concept of this comprehensive and integrated treatment of pharmaceutics, with a focus on drug product quality and performance. We are committed to producing an up-to-date, authoritative, multiauthored treatise on pharmaceutics, which can be used by both students and practitioners. 

The exact contribution of modern pharmaceuticals to our increased longevity can be only estimated and weighed in comparison with improved diet and life-...
