Person in Charge

The black cylinder had contained oxygen. All persons responsible for handling cylinders, particularly persons in charge of air masks, should be familiar with the color codes for cylinders. [Pg.106]

In this book I have used the term foreman as it is understood in both countries, though its use in the UK is becoming outdated. Manager is used to describe any professionally qualified person in charge of a unit or group of units. That is, it includes people who, in many U.S. companies, would be described as supervisors or superintendents. [Pg.433]

If your company has a TQM or other group-oriented program, consider consulting the person in charge of it to get some pointers on team leadership and process. [Pg.50]

CERCLA requires tlie person in charge of a vessel or facility to notify the National Respan.se Center (NRC) inunediately when there is a release of a designated hazardous substance in an amount equal to or greater than the reportable quantity. CERCLA establishes the reportable quantity for releases of designated liazardous substances at one pound, unless otherwise specified. To ensure that the need for response can be evaluated and any response can be undertaken in a timely fashion, such releases require notification to government officials. [Pg.41]

Throughout the book, the person in charge of day-to-day operations is referred to as the laboratory operator. This is not an administrator or supervisor located in an office down the hall or in another building. The laboratory operator must be heavily involved in all aspects of planning. Only he can estimate space requirements, check a proposed layout for practical and safe operation, and recommend allowances for future expansion. Regardless of the amount of professional assistance available, the laboratory operator can expect to burn much midnight oil. During construction he must be available at all times to take care of those numerous problems nobody had predicted. [Pg.2]

In one such case, the author was saddled with the job of reviving an old project because the person in charge of it no longer worked at the laboratory. However, he had left behind volumes of notes, complete with a sprinkling of profanity indicating where things had not worked out. With such information, the project was quickly completed. [Pg.122]

Perhaps an explanation should be offered here for my use of he throughout the book in referring to the person in charge of daily laboratory operation. This pronoun is used in its traditional sense to refer to either a man or a woman. The newer he or she, while more accurate, considering the many women in charge of laboratories today, is also more cumbersome and has been avoided for that reason. [Pg.165]

The most difficult problem of risk evaluation linked to chemicals will be discussed in this Part. This is primarily a medical problem, which therefore comes within the competence of the company medical officer and epidemiologists, but neverthel need not only be dealt with by them. The person in charge of safety control in a place where chemicals are handled also has to tackle this problem. This person will have to take into account the level of toxicity risk of a substance. This will determine the constraint level of the measures to be taken, its favoured means of penetration, which depends on the activity, and its penetration properties specific to the organism. The physical properties of the substance (which will determine the nature of the precautions to be taken) and also the values of toxicity parameters have to be taken into account. He has to check the container labelling and know how to interpret and explain the toxicity instructions on this labelling. [Pg.125]

The person in charge of this phase of the operation is often the person designated to become the plant manager. Some companies, however, have a startup division that is placed in charge. Others contract for this function with the construction firm. In any case, the person in charge should have had prior experience with startups. [Pg.364]

Additional information can be withdrawn from these curves. Indeed, the evidence theory is one of the very few diagnosis approaches that allows one to detect explicitly conflicts in the measurements signals. As a consequence, one can easily imagine that, in case of persisting doubt, the supervisory software should call an expert (if present on site). Also, such an analysis of the sensors network can invalidate the assumptions made on the influent composition (see the beliefs on CODin and between days 8 and 13 in Figure 4). The person in charge of the process has here an indication on the needed manual analysis to perform for better characterization of the wastewater to be treated. These two aspects are key requirements for telemonitoring issues as detailed in [18]. [Pg.228]

The Secretary of Defense also responded to the Council s recommendations by issuing a Top Secret memo along similar lines to the service secretaries (Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines). He specified that each secretary must approve any protocol originating in his branch of service, name the person in charge and inform the Secretary of Defense of each approval. [Pg.248]

Fire Report The official report of a fire, generally prepared by the person in charge of the fire incident. [Pg.235]

The partners will collaborate with the person in charge of processes in the user companies and advise them on inter-company implementation and optimisation of the chemical and technical processes. Furthermore, they will co-ordinate the business aspects of Chemical Leasing projects, such as the logistical optimisation and profit-sharing between chemical supplier and chemical user. [Pg.202]

Every person required under this section to maintain records, and every person in charge or custody thereof, shall, upon request of an officer or employee designated by the Secretary, permit such officer or employee at all reasonable times to have access to and copy and verify such records. [Pg.236]

That qualified person in charge of, and responsible for, the loading and firing of a blast (same as shot firer). [Pg.86]

Several months after the building was opened to the public, small ink-blue spots appeared at various places on the newly plastered surfaces. Little attention was paid to them at first it was assumed that they were ink stains or the like. But the spots grew larger, and in some parts of the building discolored patches up to about a square meter (10 sq.ft.) in size developed. The persons in charge were helpless. The specialists who had been called in from the appropriate firms could not explain this phenomenon, and not even the subject literature contained anything pertinent. [Pg.558]

It is advisable to have one person monitor all supplies. Each station should be set up with adequate supplies at the beginning of the clinic and then replenished as needed. Having one person in charge of supplies helps to avoid wastage and keeps people from helping themselves to supplies and opening multiple boxes/packages of the same item. [Pg.478]

The outcome of the risk assessment process must be recorded and appropriate safety information must be passed on to those at risk. For most practical classes, risk assessments will have been carried out in advance by the person in charge and the information necessary to minimize the risks to students may be given in the practical schedule. You will be asked to carry out risk assessments to familiarize yourself with the process and sources of information. Make sure you know how your department provides such information and that you have read the appropriate material before you begin your practical work. You should also pay close attention to the person in charge at the beginning of the practical session, as they may emphasize the major hazards and risks. In project work, you will need to be involved in the risk assessment process along with your supervisor, before you carry out any laboratory work. Any new materials synthesized during the project should be treated with the utmost respect. An example of a risk assessment is shown in Fig. 2.2. [Pg.6]

In practical classes, the person in charge has the responsibility to inform you of any hazards associated with the use of chemicals. In project work, your first duty when using an unfamiliar chemical is to find out about its properties, especially those relating to safety. For routine practical procedures, a risk assessment may have been carried out by a member of staff and the relevant safety information may be included in the practical schedule an example is shown in Table 4.1. If not, you will have to carry out a risk assessment before you begin. Before you use any of the chemicals, you must find out whether safety precautions need to be taken and complete the appropriate forms confirming that you appreciate the risks involved. Your department must provide the relevant information to allow you to do this. If your supervisor has filled out the form, read it carefully before signing. [Pg.15]

I had a word with the person in charge of computer repair at that hospital the next day. They were surprised at what I had told them, but glad that I pointed it out. I saved them from many future repairs, and they were very grateful. As far as I know, the ER receptionist doesn t rip the pages from the printer anymore, since we haven t seen that printer back in for service in a while. [Pg.417]

When you called the person in charge of the diffractometer D (see problem 4) she told you that the goniometer axis is horizontal and that the x-ray source arm is stationary. Do you need to worry about mixing your powder with a binder ... [Pg.336]

Within the delay period provided for in No. 1, the INFARMED must request the Committee s opinion whenever the person in charge of introducing the origin2d drug in the market or other person acting with his permission submits one or more applications with the same active ingredient obtained by the same synthesis procedure in another Member State within the first 5 years from the date of the first application. [Pg.498]

Particulars of person in charge of quality control/quality assurance. [Pg.606]

CERCLA reportable quantities Persons in charge of vessels or facilities are required to notify the National Response Center (NRG) immediately, when there is a release of this designated hazardous substance, in an amount equal to or greater than its reportable quantity of 100 lb or 45.4 kg.
