Pattern plating

Foundry Resins. In the foundry industry, phenoHc resins are used as the binder for sand in the manufacture of sheU molds and cores. The two mating halves are joined by clamps or a bonding agent to form a sheU mold into which the molten metal is poured for castings. The sheU is formed by depositing a resin—sand mix on a hot metal pattern plate. After a certain period the pattern is inverted and the excess resin sand is removed. The sand particles are bonded by an oven cure, and the sheU is ejected from the pattern plate. [Pg.305]

We prepared microchannel reactor employing stainless steel sheet 400tan thick patterned microchannel by a wet chemical etching. The microchannel shape and dimension were decided by computer simulation of flow distribution and pressure drop of the reactants in the microchaimel sheet. If the work functions of every portion of the crystal constituting the tip were identical, one would simply observe a uniformly bright circular patch on the fluorescent screen. Different crystal faces have slightly different work functions, however, so that one sees a pattern showing different intensities for different faces. Additive (or "pattern plating") methods are becoming increasingly popular, for they generate less waste and require lower manufacturing costs (Brush 1983). In additive methods, metal is deposited only in the holes and on the circuit locations, so there is less waste of copper. Also, the copper etching step is eliminated. The additive method does have drawbacks, however. Additive processes require use of solvent processable instead of aqueous processable photoresists. When liquids are to be evaporated on a small scale, the operation is often accomplished in some form of jacketed kettle. This may be a batch or continuous operation.
