Pattern plating 1.12 INDEX

Many of the fine minerals shown previously in Figure 7 can be seen to be randomly oriented in fact, some of the platy minerals are found to be perpendicular to the layering. SAD experiments on some of the larger mineral plates typical of those shown in Figure 12 resulted in diffraction patterns of the type shown in the inset. The pattern was indexed as the (hkO) plane of kaolinite, indicating that the electron beam is parallel to the c-axis of the crystal. [Pg.333]

X-ray diffraction patterns were recorded on a Philips PW1820 diffractometer with Cu-Ka radiation (X = 0.154 nm). The collected sample was indexed very well as cubic a-Mn203 bixbyite (JCPDS 41-1442, la-3, a = 0.941 nm) (Fig. 1). The morphologies were visualized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (Fig. 1). The abundant well-defined hexagonal-like plates with the sizes from several hundred nanometers to a few micrometers were formed during hydrothermal treatment, which kept initial shape after 700 °C-calcination (Fig. 1). The hexagonal plates are about 50 nm thick with smooth surfaces. [Pg.246]

Wasserman [186] has described the use of both low-angle X-ray reflectivity and ellipsometry for the determination of thickness of Cio-Cig SAMs prepared on surface silanol groups of silicon plates. Ellipsometry is based on the reflection of polarized light from a sample and depends on the sample s thickness and refractive index. X-ray reflectivity measures the intensity of X-rays reflected from a surface (or interference pattern) that is characteristic of the distance between interfaces. The thickness of the SAMs was consistent with fully extended alkyl chains with all-trans conformations and excellent agreement was observed between the two methods. [Pg.277]

Lignite samples were predried at 105 for 2 hours to remove the water which is a major component hence its removal, in effect, concentrates the mineral species. After drying, the samples were crushed using a mortar and pestle to pass 75 ym. The dried lignite powder was then mounted in a standard aluminium mounting plate and placed in a Philips x-ray diffractometer with a Rigaku power source. A Co x-ray tube was used to suppress fluorescence of any elemental species. The resultant diffraction pattern was resolved using the JCPDS -ICDD Powder diffraction index. [Pg.22]

The VPD catalyst appears more crystalline than the VPO catalyst. XRD and P NMR both show crystalline (VO)2P207, with a small amount of VOPO4 and disorganized (VO)2P207 also visible in the spin echo mapping spectrum. The TEM study shows the characteristic rosettes make up 95% of the catalyst, with a few flat platelets. Diffraction patterns showed the rosettes to be made up of (VO)2P207 (100) planes, while the flat plates can be indexed to an-VOP04. [Pg.518]

Figure 3b c. Conjugated patterns formed at relatively high cellulose concentration solvent composition, 24.5/75.5 cellulose concentration, 18g/100mL (b), 20g/100mL (c) DP, 210 storage time at 25 C, 10 days, with 1" red plate , direction of the highest refractive index of the 1 red plate. [Pg.164]

Certainly, one can see that there is practically no correlation between the zero-shear viscosity determined on a parallel-plate rheometer and the consistency index, determined using a capillary rheometer. Regrinds that resulted in a bad quality boards (roughness, sharkskin), namely regrinds B, G, and I, do not show any certain pattern neither in their loss modulus, nor in their consistency index. [Pg.642]

The schlieren patterns displayed in the viewing screen and the photographic plates represent the refractive index gradient distribution across the optical cell (see Figure 1). The height of the schlieren line from the base line, H, is related to the refractive index gradient dn/dr by the following expression (13) ... [Pg.276]

Ren et al. reported the fabrication of a Fresnel lens using a photomask with zone plate patterns [9]. The LC monomer in the zones cured with more UV intensity would lead to smaller LC droplets. Conversely, the zones with weaker UV exposure would result in larger nanoscale droplets. When a uniform voltage was applied to the zone plate, the refractive index (or phase) of the... [Pg.116]
