The inverse problem in scattering theory is discussed in the collections of papers edited by Baltes (1978, 1980).

As repeatedly mentioned by many experts, reaching a stable balance between the economic and social processes in any country and in the world as a whole is a complicated problem, the solution of which will call for a complex approach to study the dynamics of the NSS. Analyzing the internal mechanisms of the interaction between present global processes such as globalization, poverty, and conflict, the authors posed and tried to answer the following questions ... 

There has been little recent work on methods for differentiable functions which avoid explicit evaluation of derivatives. Powell s conjugate direction method 36 is still used, but the generally accepted approach is now to use standard quasi-Newton methods with finite-difference approximations to the derivatives. On the other hand there has been considerable interest in methods for nondifferentiable functions, as shown by the collection of papers edited by Balinski and Wolfe 37, in which the technique described by Lemarechal is of particular interest. Other contributions in this difficult field are due to Shor 38, ... 

In a paper edited in 1953, concerned with the preparation of the stereoisomeric forms of pentaphenylphosphorus, Wittig and GeiBler described the reaction of methylene-triphenylphosphorane 1 and benzophenone 2, forming 1,1-diphenylethylene 3 and triphenylphosphine oxide 4 (Scheme 1). Soon afterwards, it could be demonstrated that alkylidenephosphoranes (phosphine alkylenes, phosphorus ylides) generally react with carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes and ketones to give alkenes with the formation of phosphine oxide 1,2).

The Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction has been described and analysed in books by Zhabotinskii and Tyson, as well as by Murray. Much information on the models of chemical reactions is provided in books by Prigogine and coworkers and by Chernavskii, Romanovskii and Stepanova. Chemical chaos is described in a paper by Agladze and Krinsky, Simoyi et al. and in collections of papers edited by Kadomcev, Vidal and Pacault, as well as a book by Berge. The collections also contain a number of interesting papers dealing with other non-linear phenomena, such as multistability, dissipative... 

Some editors work from a written outline of scenes and sequences, especially if the film consists primarily of live action, such as cinema verite. If there is a significant amount of interview material, whether or not there is to be narration, the producer may also take transcripts of the interviews and cut and paste selected bites into a "paper edit." If the project was shot to a script or a script-in-progress, that working script will be adjusted to reflect the actual material on hand. In either case, rough narration can be written to seam together disparate elements, make a transition clear, or hold a place for a sequence that s still to be shot. In many editing rooms, "scratch" narration is recorded and cut in against the picture, to better evaluate its effectiveness. 

Water is a ubiquitous liquid substance in our world, is essential for life as we know it, and has by all accounts striking properties that set it aside from other liquids. It has therefore been investigated from many points of view and the results have been published in innumerable papers in journals and in many books. Some 70 years ago Dorsey (1940) published a compendium of data on the water substance and Eisenberg and Kauzmann (1969) published a book on the structure and properties of water. A collective set of volumes, edited by Franks (1972) some 40 years ago, was devoted to water and solutions in it. Since then numerous more books and review articles have been devoted to the properties of water, both for itself and as a solvent for various substances, including electrolytes and their constituent ions. The recent review by Malenkov (2(X36) of the structure and dynamics of liquid water covers the developments in these subjects since the earlier books mentioned above. Recent works on the properties of water are the collection of review papers edited by Pratt (2002) and the book by Ben-Naim (2009) on understanding water.
