Editing paper edit

As mentioned in Chapter 14, it was my usual practice during my career that whenever I felt that I had substantially achieved my goals and interest in a specific field of my research, I wrote (or edited) a book or comprehensive monograph of the field. The interested reader may want to consult these for further details. They also contain extensive references to my 1200 original papers as well as to reviews and chapters. If not otherwise indicated, my books were all published by my longtime publisher, John Wiley Sons, Inc., in New York. 

Pleach Plant Operations Short Course Notes, Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) Press, Atianta, Ga., 1983—1991. Successive editions pubhshed at intervals of slightly more than one year. Each is a collection of monographs on various aspects of pulp bleaching technology. Eadier editions replace the words "short course" with "seminar" in the tide. Collectively, probably the best available pulp bleaching text.

Witli tliese facts in mind, we have compiled and updated material provided by mrboexpander technology experts. Editing tlieir work proved to be a real challenge. Altliough we occasionally found small differences in items concerning technical detail, we discovered tliat some of tlie oldest papers and presentations on botli art and science of turboexpander technology are not only still readable, but continue to be totally relevant and applicable today. 

By 1967, the flood of short papers had become so great that a separate journal, Scripta Metallurgica, was hived off. These Latin titles were intended to symbolise the international character of the journal. Chalmers edited the journal until 1974, when Michael Ashby took over the reins which he held until 1995 at that point a more collegiate editorial structure was instituted. In 1990, the adjective "metalliirgica was supplemented by "materialia, and in 1996 the journals simply became Acta materialia and Scripta materialia (some classicist seems to have advised the board of governors, at a late stage, that lower case letters are de rigueur in Latin )...

Thiadiazole 5-oxides and 5,5-dioxides are the least studied among the four possible isomers of thiadiazole system. The main summary is in the first and the second editions of Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry (84CHEC-I(6)447, 96CHEC-II(4)289). Apparently the 5-oxide and the 5,5-dioxide derivatives have not yet been reviewed. There are very few papers in the literature treating these derivatives, and most of these are regarding polycyclic systems.

There are many excellent reviews of spin glass systems. We recommend the following three sources the review article by Binder and Young [binder86], the book by Chowdhury [chowd86], and the collection of papers edited by Mezard, et.aJ. [mez87]. 

Many landmark papers in the history of the exploration of the connections between entropy, information and computation appear in the excellent collection of reprints edited by Leff and Rex [lefF90]. 

All of Bell s papers on the conceptual and philosophical problems of quantum mechanics, including his landmark PIPR paper in which he derives his famous inequality, are collected in [bell87. An excellent collection of papers exploring the philosophical consequences of Bell s theorem appears in a volume edited by Crushing and McMullin [cush89. ...
