Pallet Safety

This chapter will focus on pallet safety, storage, rack safety, and mezzanine safety. Manufacturers of pallets, racks, and storage containers can offer much expertise in this area and should be contacted for assistance. All design and construction specifications are to be handled by a qualified engineer. [Pg.45]

In a typical warehouse or distribution center, some 75 percent or more of available space is devoted to storage. Many of the loads are palletized. Various pieces of product, such as sacks, drums, metal rods, pipes, and boxes, are stacked onto pallets. Pallets are then placed on racks or shelving for storage until needed at a later time. [Pg.45]

The load characteristics for pallet storage have two separate components  [Pg.45]

A typical pallet storage system can accommodate many different pallet sizes. The width of the pallet as well as the depth, along with load height, can differ significantly from one location to another. [Pg.45]

Stackabiiity. This is expressed by the number of pallets that can be safely stacked on top of each other without damaging product. Stackabiiity depends on the size and shape of product on a pallet. For small warehouses without racking, placing single pallets on the floor without stacking may function well. When [Pg.45]

Up to now there has not been much material developed on the subject of warehouse safety. Periodic articles discuss safe procedures for lift trucks, lifting, pallet safety, fire safety, and racking. However, on the whole, warehouse safety has not been a major focus of any publication or organization. Moreover, seminars on warehouse operations frequently omit the subject of safety. Even at safety conferences, seminars and specialty sessions rarely address the topic of overall warehouse safety. [Pg.375]

An employee is sprayed with an organic acid when loosening the handles on a filter hat in preparation for changing the filter. The employee is burned although the acid takes several minutes of contact before a hum occurs. It took the employee several minutes to get to the safety shower, because a pallet blocked the path to the closest shower. The employee went to another shower, which was farther away. [Pg.209]

Safe separation studies were conducted to achieve increased production and cost effectiveness with improved safety. A typical ammunition production line flow diagram (in this case for the manufacture of 105 mm projectile) consists of several work areas as shown in Fig 8. ( (l) Receiving and storage, (2) Box open and inspect (3) Melt Pour (U) Cool (5) Hold (6) Funnel Pull and (T) Riser Preparation.) Explosive material is transferred by automatic conveyor between these work areas. The requirement was to establish safe separation between explosive boxes, pallets with and without funnels, buckets, and to determine critical height of continuous feed flake Comp B and TNT. The objective of these tests was to establish minimum nonpropagation distances between these items so that an explosion chain reaction will be prevented. [Pg.6]

Pallet et al. [125] reported the safety and eiificacy of tacrolimus ointment for the treatment of 351 children ages 2-15 years with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis in a randomized, double-blind, vehicle controlled study. Patients were allowed to treat up to 100% BSA twice daily for 12 weeks with either 0.03%,... [Pg.439]

Thermal stability of PVC is found improved by adding ZnO during its manufacture. The antistatic, fungi static and emulsion stability of vinyl polymers are also improved by the addition of ZnO. ZnO-stabilized polypropylene and high-density polyethylene are used in the production of safety helmets, insulation, pallets, bags and filaments, and also agricultural and recreational equipment. [Pg.354]

Outline the health and safety considerations when a fork lift truck is to be used to unload palletized goods from a vehicle parked in a factory car park. [Pg.230]

Solids are usually stored in bulk or piles, or on pallets or racks. In any case, incompatible materials must be separated and all appropriate safety procedures must be followed. [Pg.44]

Freight elevators are loaded by hand, handtruck, or industrial truck. Large units can carry industrial trucks or motor vehicles with their loads. One major safety concern is the increase in size and weight of palletized loads and lift trucks over the years and their use in older elevators with limited capacity. Load capacity limits must be strictly observed to prevent elevator failure, including inadequate braking and traction/drive slipping. [Pg.217]

In the factory the units are moved on pallets by forklift trucks. Two sides of the test enclosure comprise push-button controlled barriers which can be raised to permit truck ingress and exit. Limit switches on the barrier pedestals ensure the supply is off when either barrier is raised. There is also an internal safety barrier between the test panel and test piece which has a limit switch on its pedestal to switch off the supply when the tester raises the barrier for... [Pg.319]
