One of the main differences of electrodeposition paints with conventional water soluble paints is their lower solids and thus solvent content. A typical binder content is around 10%w, the amount of solvent approximately 5%. The rest, apart from pigmentation, is water. The influence of solvent in the early stages of binder/paint formulation is very similar to the effects described for conventional aqueous paints which is also started from an approx. 70% solids binder solution in coupling solvent(s). The choice of the solvent (blend) is, however, less influenced by its evaporation characteristics as the deposited paint film does not contain much water and is stoved after application. Of more importance are paint stability and electrical properties (conductivity, rupture voltage). [Pg.62]

There are important applications for which convetskw must be low. A good example is the UF of dectro-phoietic paint. The desired product is permeate, whidi is requited for rinsing newly painted objects for recovery of excess paint and for removal of electrolytes and contaminants. Since flux, paint stability, and membrane cleanliness are affected adversely by rising concentration, the UF b run at as low a paint concentration as feasible, that is, at low conveiaon. In such a situation, yield b not a factor, and the absence of leakage b the dominant consideration. [Pg.831]

This paper is the seventh in a series discussing colloid chemistry, and focuses on latex paints. These are defined, and then discussed under the following headings terminology, general features, inherent contradictions, emulsion paints as latex-based compositions, latex characterisation, colloid characteristics, latex modification, latex stability, latex paints as polymers and pigment mixed dispersions, functional additives, and paint stability. 5 refs. [Pg.109]

Electrostatic stabilization works best for strongly charged colloids and at low electrolyte concentrations. An important industrial example is the latex particles in water-based paints stabilized by repulsive electrostatic forces (Pashley and Karaman, 2004 and later Example 11.4). Rapid coagulation... [Pg.248]

Major industrial uses of organotin compounds include applications of tin com-poimds in fungicides, acaricides, disinfectants, antifouling paints, stabilizers to lessen the effects of heat and light in PVC plastics, catalysts, and precursors for the formation of films of Sn02 on glass. Tributyl tin chloride and related tributyl tin (TBT) compounds have bactericidal, fimgicidal, and insecticidal properties and are... [Pg.302]

AMICAL 50 contains not less than 75% diiodomethyl p-tolyl sulfone plus 20 percent color suppressants. The color suppressants have no harmful effects on paint stability in the can nor on the applied coating. They function only to inhibit the development of discoloration of the paint film. [Pg.4]
