Oxidative alkoxy

Upon oxidation, alkoxy bridges seem to be invariably formed and this may be viewed as an internal Lewis base association reaction in response to the increased Lewis acidity of the metal ions which accompanies the changes (MiM)6 (M=M)8 ... [Pg.247]

A wide range of organic substrates can undergo an oxidative carbonylation reaction. Depending on reaction conditions, alkenes have been converted into -chloroalkanoyl chlorides (oxidative chloro-chlorocarbonylation) [1,2], succinic diesters (oxidative dialkoxycarbonylation) [3-20], a,/J-unsaturated esters [21,22] (oxidative monoalkoxycarbonylation), or /J-alkoxyalkanoic esters [11] (oxidative alkoxy-alkoxycarbonylation), according to Eqs. 10-13. [Pg.246]

Allene has been reported to undergo Pd-promoted oxidative dialkoxycar-bonylation with a stoichiometric amount of PdCk [57] (Eq. 17) and oxidative alkoxy-alkoxycarbonylation under catalytic conditions using CUCI2/O2 as the oxidizing agent [58,59] (Eq. 18). [Pg.250]

This cleavage usually also provides, as a minor product, the ketone 3, formed by an intramolecular Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction and Oppenauer oxidation -Alkoxy ketones of this type (6) can be obtained as the major product by reduction of ketals (5) with diethylaluminum fluoride (1.2 equiv.) and pentafluorophenol (2.4 equiv.), (equation II). Note that the reduction is again effected with retention. [Pg.203]

Allyllic ether 53 is oxidized regioselectively to the /3-alkoxy ketone 54, which is converted into the a,/i-unsaturated ketone 55 and used for annulation[99]. The ester of homoallylic alcohol 56 is oxidized mainlv to the 7-acetoxy ketone 57[99]. [Pg.28]

The oxidation of the cyclic enol ether 93 in MeOH affords the methyl ester 95 by hydrolysis of the ketene acetal 94 formed initially by regioselective attack of the methoxy group at the anomeric carbon, rather than the a-alkoxy ketone[35]. Similarly, the double bond of the furan part in khellin (96) is converted ino the ester 98 via the ketene acetal 97[l23],... [Pg.34]

As a unique reaction of Pd(II), the oxidative carbonylation of alkenes is possible with Pd(ll) salts. Oxidative carbonylation is mechanistically different from the hydrocarboxylation of alkenes catalyzed by Pd(0), which is treated in Chapter 4, Section 7.1. The oxidative carbonylation in alcohol can be understood in the following way. The reaction starts by the formation of the alkoxy-carbonylpalladium 218. Carbopalladation of alkene (alkene insertion) with 218 gives 219. Then elimination of /3-hydrogen of this intermediate 219 proceeds to... [Pg.50]

The first report of oxidative carbonylation is the reaction of alkenes with CO in benzene in the presence of PdCh to afford the /3-chloroacyl chloride 224[12,206]. The oxidative carbonylation of alkene in alcohol gives the q, f3-unsaturated ester 225 and /3-alkoxy ester 226 by monocarbonylation, and succinate 111 by dicarbonylation depending on the reaction conditions[207-209]. The scope of the reaction has been studied[210]. Succinate formation takes... [Pg.51]

Chemical Structure and Properties. Homopolymer consists exclusively of repeating oxymethylene units. The copolymer contains alkyhdene units (eg, ethyUdene —CH2—CH2—) randomly distributed along the chain. A variety of end groups may be present in the polymers. Both homopolymer and copolymer may have alkoxy, especially methoxy (CH3 O—), or formate (HCOO—) end groups. Copolymer made with ethylene oxide has 2-hydroxyethoxy end groups. Homopolymer generally has acetate end groups. [Pg.57]

Mn (IT) is readily oxidized to Mn (ITT) by just bubbling air through a solution in, eg, nonanoic acid at 95°C, even in the absence of added peroxide (186). Apparently traces of peroxide in the solvent produce some initial Mn (ITT) and alkoxy radicals. Alkoxy radicals can abstract hydrogen to produce R radicals and Mn (ITT) can react with acid to produce radicals. The R radicals can produce additional alkylperoxy radicals and hydroperoxides (reactions 2 and 3) which can produce more Mn (ITT). If the oxygen feed is replaced by nitrogen, the Mn (ITT) is rapidly reduced to Mn (IT). [Pg.343]

Alkyl hahdes in the presence of silver oxide react with alkyl malates to yield alkoxy derivatives of succinic acid, eg, 2-ethoxysuccinic acid, H00CCH2CH(0C2H )C00H (12,13). A synthetic approach to produce ethers of malic acid is the reaction of malic esters and sodium alkoxides which affords 2-alkoxysuccinic esters (14). [Pg.521]

An important side reaction in all free-radical nitrations is reaction 10, in which unstable alkyl nitrites are formed (eq. 10). They decompose to form nitric oxide and alkoxy radicals (eq. 11) which form oxygenated compounds and low molecular weight alkyl radicals which can form low molecular weight nitroparaffins by reactions 7 or 9. The oxygenated hydrocarbons often react further to produce even lighter oxygenated products, carbon oxides, and water. [Pg.35]

OrganometaUics and organometaHoids that yield peroxides in this manner include those in which Q is aluminum, antimony, arsenic, boron, cadmium, germanium, lead, phosphoms, siUcon, and tin and in which X is chlorine, bromine, alkoxy, acetoxy, cyano, oxide, hydride, hydroxyl, amino, alkyl, and boron tetrafluoride (28,33,44,60) (see Table 3). [Pg.110]

Apparently the alkoxy radical, R O , abstracts a hydrogen from the substrate, H, and the resulting radical, R" , is oxidized by Cu " (one-electron transfer) to form a carbonium ion that reacts with the carboxylate ion, RCO - The overall process is a chain reaction in which copper ion cycles between + 1 and +2 oxidation states. Suitable substrates include olefins, alcohols, mercaptans, ethers, dienes, sulfides, amines, amides, and various active methylene compounds (44). This reaction can also be used with tert-huty peroxycarbamates to introduce carbamoyloxy groups to these substrates (243). [Pg.131]

The estimation of alkoxy groups is not such a simple task. One method (26,68) involves hydrolysis and oxidation of the Hberated alcohol with excess standard potassium dichromate solution. The excess may then be estimated iodometrically. This method is suitable only for methoxides, ethoxides, and isopropoxides quantitative conversion to carbon dioxide, acetic acid, and acetone, respectively, takes place. An alternative method for ethoxides is oxidation followed by distillation, and titration of the Hberated acetic acid. [Pg.28]

The same products may be made from primary alkoxides by the violent reaction with elementary chlorine or bromine. A radical mechanism has been proposed to account for the oxidation of some of the alkoxy groups (54) ... [Pg.144]

Metal-Catalyzed Oxidation. Trace quantities of transition metal ions catalyze the decomposition of hydroperoxides to radical species and greatiy accelerate the rate of oxidation. Most effective are those metal ions that undergo one-electron transfer reactions, eg, copper, iron, cobalt, and manganese ions (9). The metal catalyst is an active hydroperoxide decomposer in both its higher and its lower oxidation states. In the overall reaction, two molecules of hydroperoxide decompose to peroxy and alkoxy radicals (eq. 5). [Pg.223]

Alkoxy-6-chloropyridazine is oxidized at the nitrogen next to the chlorine. On the other hand, IV-oxidation of compounds with an amino or acylamino group and either an alkoxy group or a chlorine atom at positions 3 and 6 always takes place at the nitrogen next to the amino group. [Pg.19]

The reactivity of halogens in pyridazine N- oxides towards nucleophilic substitution is in the order 5 > 3 > 6 > 4. This is supported by kinetic studies of the reaction between the corresponding chloropyridazine 1-oxides and piperidine. In general, the chlorine atoms in pyridazine A-oxides undergo replacement with alkoxy, aryloxy, piperidino, hydrazino, azido, hydroxylamino, mercapto, alkylmercapto, methylsulfonyl and other groups. [Pg.27]

Dichloropyridazine 1-Oxide produces both isomers with alkoxides. However, the ratio is dependent on the size of the alkoxy group. In the reaction with sodium methoxide 80% of 6-chloro-3-methoxypyridazine 1-oxide and 7.5% of 3-chloro-6-methoxypyridazine 1-oxide are formed. Similar results are also obtained with sodium ethoxide, while sodium propoxide affords only 6-chloro-3-propoxypyridazine 1-oxide. Amines react similarly, while only chlorine at the 3-position can be substituted with an azido group to give 3-azido-6-chloropyridazine 1-oxide. [Pg.27]

Pyrimidine N-oxides may be made directly or via their N-alkoxy analogues by means of the Principal Synthesis or other primary synthesis. The alternative route is peroxide oxidation of the parent pyrimidine but this can lead to a mixture of 1- and 3-oxides if the substrate is unsymmetrical about the 2,5-axis of the molecule. [Pg.141]

Removal of AT-oxide groups by PCI3 follows normal behaviour (63JCS6073), but with acetic anhydride the AAoxides (332) underwent a complex ring-opening reaction leading to (333), and an isomeric 8-alkoxy-6-oxide behaved similarly (75H(3)38l). [Pg.241]

Three preparations of 1-azetine iV-oxides have been reported. Oxidation of the 2-aryl-l-azetine (222) with MCPBA gives the nitrone (223) (79CB3914>. However, similar treatment of 2-alkoxy-l-azetines fails to give the corresponding iV-oxides but yields products derived from oxaziridines (cf. Section 5.09.4.2.3). [Pg.275]
