Other Binders

Other types of binders include qxtxy esters and silicon-based inorganic zinc-rich coatings. [Pg.26]

The key control parameter of a protein solution is the solids content, therefore the metering of water and protein powder must be accurate. Some pH ontrolling chemicals must be added to have the right caustic process conditions. Typical protein processing parameters are 10-25% solids content, alkali amount (one-third of sodium hydroxide and two-thirds of ammonium water) around 7 % of the protein, heating to 60 °C and holding at this temperature for between 15 and 30 min. The protein will be cooked until the binder is a lump-free solution. [Pg.360]

Additives are, for example, carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC), flow modifiers, pH-controlling chemicals, preservatives (biocides), defoamers, deaeraters, dyes and [Pg.360]

The mixing, storage and circulation tanks for coating colors are made of stainless steel, since the pH range of raw materials and coating colors tends to corrode standard steels. Most vessels are equipped with an agitator, and some also have a shell/jacket that may be heated or cooled. Agitators are mostly indispensable because, in low-viscosity colors especially, soHd color components are prone to sedimentation unless the suspension is stirred continuously. [Pg.361]

CNT randomly dispersed composites Many soft and rigid composites of carbon nanotubes have been reported [17]. The first carbon-nanotube-modified electrode was made from a carbon-nanotube paste using bromoform as an organic binder (though other binders are currently used for the paste formation, i.e. mineral oil) [105]. In this first application, the electrochemistry of dopamine was proved and a reversible behavior was found to occur at low potentials with rates of electron transfer much faster than those observed for graphite electrodes. Carbon-nanotube paste electrodes share the advantages of the classical carbon paste electrode (CPE) such as the feasibility to incorporate different substances, low background current, chemical inertness and an easy renewal nature [106,107]. The added value with CNTs comes from the enhancement of the electron-transfer reactions due to the already discussed mechanisms. [Pg.138]

Sometimes particles are encouraged to agglomerate to yield granules, for example, for pharmaceutical applications which may require the addition of liquids or other binders. In the ceramics, paint, plastics and rubber industries, however, reducing or eliminating agglomerate formation is of overriding importance. [Pg.180]

NENAs possess good thermal stability, readily plasticize NC and other binders, generate low molecular weight combustion products and impart favorable impact sensitivity. Butyl NENA has edge over others because it imparts better low temperature properties as well [182]. The use of NENAs as plasticizers in gun and rocket propellant formulations imparts excellent properties such as high bum rates, reduction in flame temperature and molecular mass of combustion products and high force constant or specific impulse [183]. [Pg.272]

Other binders are polyvinylchloride 112, 128), sometimes with a plasticizer 56) polyvinylacetal, specifically polyvinylformal plasticised with a copolymer of 1 3-butadiene and acrylonitrile (70) fluoro carbon polymers for preference a chlorotrifluoro ethylene polymer 132). [Pg.312]

Solidification/stabilization Refers to reducing the mobility of a contaminant in soils, other solids, or even liquid wastes by mixing them with Portland cement, lime, cement kiln dust, clays, slags, polymers, water treatment sludges, iron-rich gypsum, fly ash, and/or other binders. The process decreases the mobility of contaminants through physical encapsulation (solidification) and chemical bonding between the contaminants and the binders (stabilization). [Pg.466]

Egg yolk acts as an emulsion and makes the paint water soluble. It does not yellow, crack, or darken the paint. Egg tempera paints are more permanent than paints mixed with any other binder. [Pg.117]

Approximately 90% of the unsaturated vitamin B12 binding capacity of sonicates of peripheral blood granulocytes appears to be TC III, while the remainder is TC I (S6). Granulocytes have not been found to contain TC II. Studies on the delivery of vitamin B12 to human lymphocytes by TC I, TC II, and TC III have shown that in lymphocyte cultures the uptake of [57Co]B12 from its complex with TC II was substantially higher than from complexes with other binders. It was concluded from these experiments that TC III, like TC I, did not promote uptake of vitamin B12 by human hemopoietic cells and that these two transcobalamins appear to be storage proteins (M2). [Pg.171]

As an additional component, various thermoplastic polymers can be used. As a binder for copper clad laminates, a solution of solid epoxide resin (Epikote 1001), BPA/DC prepolymer, Zn acetate and poly(phenylene sulfide) was used [83], Other binders for reinforced plastics contain polysulfone. Such compositions consist of liquid BPA/ECH epoxide resin, BPA/DC prepolymer, polysulfone and bis(4-hydro-xyphenyl)sulfone [85]. Bis(4-aminophenyl)sulfone can be also added [86]. In such systems the bisphenol reacts with the epoxide resin as a chain extension agent, whereas the diamine crosslinks the diepoxide. The Tg values are close to 200 °C. They can be increased a little, if the BPA/ECH epoxide resin is replaced by the tetra-epoxide A,A,A, A -tetrakis(2,3-epoxypropyl)diaminodiphenylmethane [87]. [Pg.52]

In binding thermite with sodium silicate, it is very essential that all the water be driven out, and, because of the difficulty of completely drying the silicate-bound thermite, a number of other binders w ere tried. A wide range of adhesive and other binder systems is used in the manufacture of composite panels, dominated by formaldehyde-based systems. Growth in the composite panels industry has depended on adhesives with the required properties being available in sufficient quantities at a suitable eost. The industry requires considerable economies of seale for synthetie adhesive production. The materials are derived from oil (phenol) or natural gas (urea and formaldehyde). Recently in the face of environmental constraints and the inereasing eost of oil and natural gas there is renewed interest in adhesive systems derived from renewable resourees. [Pg.437]

A variety of binders are used for road bases and sub-bases, capping layers, soil stabilisation and soil improvement, depending on the availability of materials and local traditions. This section refers to factory blended mixtures of binders. In-situ treatment of materials, using lime and other binders is described in section 26.3. [Pg.269]
