Alkyd resins combination with other binders

Cured amino resins are far too brittle to be used alone as surface coatings for metal or wood substrates, but in combination with other film formers (alkyds, polyesters, acryUcs, epoxies) a wide range of acceptable performance properties can be achieved. These combination binder coating formulations cure rapidly at slightly elevated temperatures, making them well suited for industrial baking appHcations. The amino resin content in the formulation is typically in the range of 10—50% of the total binder soHds. [Pg.328]

Combination of Alkyd Resins with Other Binders. Alkyd resins can be combined in many different ways with other paint raw materials. In one method alkyd resins are mixed with preformulated products this is normally carried out in the paint factory. Alternatively, the reactivity of the initial products can be employed to modify the alkyd resin during production. [Pg.43]

Modified phenolic resins are condensation products of the resol type which contain other starting materials besides phenol and formaldehyde (e.g., acrylic monomers). The phenolic component itself is often modified (alkyl- or arylphenols). Modification with rosin is the most important one. The compatibility of phenolic resins with other binders can be substantially improved by modification. Rosin-modified phenolic resins may be combined with linseed oils and alkyd resins. Examples of use include putties, priming coats, rust protection paints, and colored topcoats. [Pg.90]
